INDIE STORM INTERVIEW:
DOWHANASH

1. Come è nata la vostra band?

 

Nel 2001 ho sciolto i Detestor ma avevo in serbo molti pezzi che ho messo nel cassetto, aspettando il momento giusto per farli uscire... Nel 2019 quel momento è arrivato. Nel frattempo i pezzi si erano evoluti, adattattandosi alla fluidità della mia mente.

 

2. Quali sono le vostre principali influenze musicali?

 

Sinceramente siamo molto più influenzati dalla musica che rimane al di fuori dell'ambito metal... Infatti è evidente che non ci sono gruppi che ci assomigliano. Per essere più precisi: possiamo ricordare mille gruppi diversi ma non uno in particolare.

 

3. Come descrivereste il vostro stile musicale?

 

Il nostro stile non è catalogabile in nessun altro stile se non  quello che noi abbiamo coniato come "Draco Metal".

 

4. Qual è il significato dietro il nome della vostra band?

 

 Dowhanash è un nome composto da quattro parole in lingua Draconiana: energia strisciante nera ed alata, ossia: Drago Nero.

 

5. Cosa possiamo aspettarci dal vostro prossimo album?

 

Ti posso solo dire che sarà migliore dei dischi precedenti. Sarà qualcosa di diverso e inaspettato.

 

6. Quali sono i vostri obiettivi a lungo termine come band?

 

 Il progetto prevede 4 cd legati rispettivamente ai 4 elementi: Fuoco, Aria, Terra e Acqua (F.A.T.A.), più un quinto cd che racchiuderà questi elementi insieme al quinto: il Vuoto. Il quinto cd sarà la quinta essenza della nostra musica (555). Un full length album per omaggiare il nostro grande Maestro.

 

7. Qual è stato il momento più significativo della vostra carriera?

 

L'incontro con Sara è stato il momento in cui abbiamo cambiato paradigma. Abbiamo fatto una svolta epocale... un salto di qualità.

 

8. Qual è il vostro album preferito di tutti i tempi?

 

Il nostro prossimo album😅.

DOWHANASH - Killing Reality

Questa si, è una canzone totalmente Gothic Metal.

 

Quella che però è una cosa che si sente raramente, è la multi etnica miscela di stili gotici in essa contenuti, si signori perché qui c'è tutta la storia del Gothic in giro per il mondo, dalla sua nascita, fino alle ultime evoluzioni, che fondamentale lo hanno riportato al passato.

 

La canzone è classica e moderna, onirica e potente, Metal e elettronica, in un mix voci strumenti sapientemente dosato, che te la fa amare al primo ascolto e che farà la gioia dei molti fan che rimpiangono i gruppi storici del genere.

 

Si parte con un intro acustico di pochi secondi che subito ricorda i britannici "The Sisters Of Mercy", per poi esplodere in una base strumentale altrettanto britannica che sembra uscita direttamente da un disco dei "Paradise Lost".

 

Ma non basta, perché le voci maschili e femminili nella strofa sono un tributo all'oniricità degli olandesi "Within Temptation", che dopo qualche secondo sfociando nel ritornello, fanno un giro nella nostra madrepatria, e con uno stile "Lacuna Coil", regalano cattiveria con le background growl che appoggiano la stupenda voce femminile.

 

Da qui iniziano gli inserti elettronici, e la parte più "pop" del brano, dove la voce femminile, sempre intonatissima e sognante, si avvicina a qualcosa che non sarebbe dispiaciuto a "Madonna", e credetemi, sto facendo un complimento alla signora Ciccone, con tutto il rispetto.

 

Si riparte con un bridge che potrebbe sembrare una ripetizione della prima parte della canzone ma invece no, qui grazie al suono di chitarra Dark, alle voci e alle tastiere d'appoggio, siamo nei territori dei mai troppo lodati norvegesi "Theatre Of Tragedy".

 

Di nuovo si torna alla strofa, tutto regolare, e qui accade l' impossibile! 

 

Le influenze dei suoni sono talmente tante e ben miscelate che è quasi impossibile citarle tutte, tra queste ci sono i teutonici "Crematory", gli spagnoli "Moonspell", e di nuovo i "Paradise Lost" nel loro periodo più elettronico, ma nel momento successivo la canzone sembra voglia darci un po' di respiro, dopo tanta abbondanza, e si ferma.

 

Riparte con un giro di basso che ci fa venire un brivido, come se "Greg Mackintosh" stesse amoreggiando con "Robert Smith", e qui succede l' impensabile, parte l' assolo.

 

Dimenticate tutto quello che ho detto, perché il solo in questione non è per nulla il classico e un po' monotematico solo "Gothic", ma piuttosto sembra un figlio vanitoso di "Satriani" e "Slash", un qualcosa che non ti aspetti, che leva ogni ombra di oscurità ed eleva la canzone ad una raffinatezza che solo noi italiani possiamo creare, un signor solo.

 

NOVEMBRE 2018:

Rigel crea i Dowhanash, una concept band di musica Metal, dove il tema principale dei testi è la spiritualità derivata dalla “Conoscenza del Drago”.

 

I Dowhanash, con le loro canzoni, molto varie tra loro e difficili da catalogare, spaziando dall’Heavy Metal al Grind Core, hanno creato un nuovo genere e siccome i testi parlano di “Conoscenza Draconiana” si è deciso di chiamarlo “Draco Metal”.

Questa musica originale, mai banale, mutevole ed imprevedibile, è studiata apposta per andare in profondità nell’animo umano e far risuonare determinate “corde”.

 

I testi sono insegnamenti esoterici che hanno il compito di scuotere le coscienze e risvegliare il cosiddetto “Maestro Interiore”.

Dowhanash, è un concetto formato da 4 parole: dow, ha, naa, sha.

Queste sillabe rappresentano dei simboli Draconiani traslitterati, con le lettere dell’alfabeto inglese, per comprenderne la pronuncia.

 

OTTOBRE 2020:

esce “From the Ashes”, il primo CD (elemento FUOCO).

Le canzoni di “From the Ashes” si possono trovare anche su YouTube con dei video che sono stati girati nel primo e unico live show della band, fatto pochi giorni prima dell’uscita del suddetto album.

 

DICEMBRE 2021:

esce “To the Stardust”, il secondo CD (elemento ARIA).

Nello stesso periodo i Dowhanash partecipano con “O.N.W.O.” alla compilation “A Time Of Sorrow”. Su YouTube è disponibile il video di questa canzone.

 

MAGGIO 2023:

esce il singolo “They Will Resist” con il video su YouTube.

 

GIUGNO 2023:

esce “Promethium 61”, il terzo CD (elemento TERRA).

 

GIUGNO 2024:

esce il singolo “No Way Out (NWO version)”, una canzone di “Promethium 61” rimixata, con le voci di Sara (la nuova cantante) e Joe (il nuovo bassista).

 

Tutti i lavori sono stati registrati, editati, mixati e masterizzati da Alessandro Paolini nel "BAGOON STUDIO".

 

Il primo disco è stato prodotto e distribuito dalla "BLACK TEARS LABEL" mentre tutti i lavori successivi sono stati prodotti e distribuiti dalla "THE BLACK LIBRARY" (ex "DEATH INSIDE RECORDS").

 

Il singolo O.N.W.O. è stato prodotto da Andred della “OCULARIS INFERNUM BOOKING AND PROMOTION” e distribuito dalla "WINE & FOG DISTRO" e dalla "BLACK TEARS LABEL".

 

I video sono stati realizzati dai registi Lucio Basadonne, Davide Scovazzo e Simone Manenti.

1. How was your band formed?

In 2001, I disbanded Detestor, but I had many songs stored away, waiting for the right moment to release them... In 2019, that moment finally arrived. In the meantime, the songs had evolved, adapting to the fluidity of my mind.

2. What are your main musical influences?

Honestly, we’re much more influenced by music outside the metal realm... In fact, it’s clear that there are no bands quite like us. To be more precise: we could name a thousand different bands, but not one in particular.

3. How would you describe your musical style?

Our style cannot be categorized under any other genre except the one we coined ourselves: Draco Metal.

4. What is the meaning behind your band’s name?

Dowhanash is a name made up of four words in the Draconian language: creeping, black, winged energy—in other words: Black Dragon.

5. What can we expect from your next album?

I can only tell you that it will be better than the previous records. It will be something different and unexpected.

6. What are your long-term goals as a band?

The project envisions 4 albums, each connected to one of the four elements: Fire, Air, Earth, and Water (F.A.T.A.), plus a fifth album that will unite these elements with a fifth one: the Void. This fifth album will be the quintessence of our music (555)—a full-length record to honor our great Master.

7. What has been the most significant moment in your career?

Meeting Sara was the moment when we changed our entire paradigm. We made a historic turning point... a real leap in quality.

8. What is your favorite album of all time?

Our next album 😅.

DOWHANASH – Killing Reality

This is a truly Gothic Metal song.

What you don’t often hear, however, is the multi-ethnic blend of gothic styles contained within it. Yes indeed, ladies and gentlemen, here we have the entire history of Gothic music from around the world—its birth, its evolution, and the latest developments that, fundamentally, have brought it full circle back to its origins.

The track is both classic and modern, dreamy yet powerful, Metal and electronic—an expertly balanced mix of voices and instruments that will make you fall in love at first listen, and delight the many fans who long for the legendary bands of the genre.

It opens with a brief acoustic intro that instantly calls to mind the British The Sisters of Mercy, then bursts into an equally British instrumental foundation that could have been lifted straight from a Paradise Lost record.

But that’s not all: the male and female vocals in the verses are a tribute to the dreamlike atmosphere of Dutch band Within Temptation. A few seconds later, as the chorus arrives, we find ourselves back in our homeland, where in true Lacuna Coil style, raw power is delivered through background growls supporting a stunning female lead vocal.

From here, the electronic elements begin to appear, leading into the most “pop” part of the track—where the ever-pitch-perfect and ethereal female voice takes on shades that wouldn’t have been out of place for Madonna. And believe me, that’s meant as a compliment to Mrs. Ciccone, with all due respect.

The bridge might seem like a repeat of the opening section, but it’s not. Thanks to dark guitar tones, layered vocals, and supportive keyboards, we’ve entered the realm of the ever-underrated Norwegian Theatre of Tragedy.

Back to the verse—business as usual—and then the impossible happens!

The influences in the sound are so numerous and well-blended that it’s almost impossible to name them all: among them, the German Crematory, the Portuguese Moonspell, and again Paradise Lost in their more electronic period. Then suddenly, after this abundance, the song seems to take a breath and stops.

It resumes with a bassline that sends shivers down your spine—as if Greg Mackintosh were flirting with Robert Smith. And then, the unthinkable: the solo begins.

Forget everything I just said, because this is no typical, slightly predictable “Gothic” solo. Instead, it sounds like the proud offspring of Satriani and Slash—something completely unexpected, sweeping away any lingering shadows and elevating the track to a refinement that only we Italians seem capable of creating. A truly masterful solo.

 

 

NOVEMBER 2018:
Rigel creates Dowhanash, a concept Metal band whose main lyrical theme is spirituality derived from the “Knowledge of the Dragon.”

Dowhanash, with their songs—very diverse and hard to categorize, ranging from Heavy Metal to Grindcore—have created a new genre. Since the lyrics deal with “Draconian Knowledge,” it was decided to call it Draco Metal.
This original music—never banal, ever-changing, and unpredictable—is specifically designed to delve deep into the human soul and strike certain “chords.”

The lyrics are esoteric teachings meant to shake consciences and awaken the so-called “Inner Master.”
Dowhanash is a concept made up of four words: dow, ha, naa, sha.
These syllables represent transliterated Draconian symbols, rendered with the letters of the English alphabet to convey their pronunciation.

OCTOBER 2020:
From the Ashes is released, the first CD (element FIRE).
The songs from From the Ashes can also be found on YouTube with videos filmed during the band’s first and only live show, held just a few days before the album’s release.

DECEMBER 2021:
To the Stardust is released, the second CD (element AIR).
Around the same time, Dowhanash takes part with O.N.W.O. in the compilation A Time of Sorrow. The music video for this track is available on YouTube.

MAY 2023:
The single They Will Resist is released, along with its YouTube video.

JUNE 2023:
Promethium 61 is released, the third CD (element EARTH).

JUNE 2024:
The single No Way Out (NWO version) is released—a remixed track from Promethium 61, featuring vocals by Sara (the new singer) and Joe (the new bassist).

All works were recorded, edited, mixed, and mastered by Alessandro Paolini at BAGOON STUDIO.

The first album was produced and distributed by BLACK TEARS LABEL, while all subsequent works were produced and distributed by THE BLACK LIBRARY (formerly DEATH INSIDE RECORDS).
