INDIE STORM INTERVIEW:
DARK ARIES PROJECT

1.Come è nata la vostra band?

Il progetto non è proprio una band ma un Collettivo di artisti che ha
messo insieme le forze è ha portato il Dark Aries Project a ciò che è oggi! La mente è Ilinx, che ha creato tutto nel 2017, produttore e musicista principale.

2. Quali sono le vostre principali influenze musicali?

Sono veramente enormi, se dovessimo citare degli artisti proporrei, Poppy, Distant Dream, God Is An Astronaut, 3teeth, Code Orange, Sleep Token, Widek, ecc.

3.Come descrivereste il vostro stile musicale?

Unico, passiamo da stili metal estremo a cose sperimentali, con influenze anche pop e hip hop. Direi sperimentale

4. Qual è il significato dietro il nome della vostra band?

Aries significa Ariete, nella bibbia è un animale che viene sacrificato In nome di Dio, lo abbiamo collegato alla Lore del progetto

5. Qual è stata la vostra esperienza più memorabile durante un concerto?

Quella al Rock n roll di Milano, tanta gente affezionata ai personaggi e ci siamo divertiti un sacco. Era il caos.

6.Come nasce una vostra canzone?

Ci sono diversi metodi, ma siamo molto misteriosi sul processo completo! Di base partiamo sempre dalle sezioni ritmiche.

7. Qual è il processo di scrittura dei testi?

Non vi sono testi, ma a volte qualche frase o riferimento.

8.Come decidete quali canzoni includere in un album?

Di solito abbiamo già le idee chiare, quando un brano viene finito ed è come vogliamo, viene incluso.

9. Avete qualche rituale particolare prima di entrare in studio di registrazione? Si! Ma questo non possiamo ancora svelarlo

10. Qual è stata la canzone più diffcile da scrivere e perché?

Probabilmente, “The Thread Between Our Souls”, dall’album “Project 66”. È stata molto difficile a livello compositivo ai tempi.

11.Cosa possiamo aspettarci dal vostro prossimo album?

Un cambiamento ci sarà, sicuramente più sperimentazione, qualità un po’ più alta, e soprattuto un video musicale molto importante! Che molti fan apprezzeranno!

12. Avete collaborazioni in programma con altri artisti?
 

Decisamente sì, ma saranno ascoltabile il prossimo anno.

13.Quali sono i vostri obiettivi a lungo termine come band?

Girare il più possibile, far diventare i nostri personaggi una realtà, portarli tra la gente e lasciare un segno nella mente delle persone.

14. C’è qualche genere musicale che vorreste esplorare in futuro?

Ci sono sempre generi musicali diversi che vogliamo esplorare, ma la musica Phonk è già stata presa di mira da Ilinx!

15. Quali sono i vostri piani per il prossimo anno?

Aumentare i Live, la qualità delle uscite e dei video. Insomma aspettatevi qualcosa di veramente folle perchè il team sta diventando sempre piu grosso.

16.Qual è il vostro album preferito di tutti i tempi?

Antares dei Sybreed

17. Cosa fate nel tempo libero quando non siete impegnati con la musica?

Abbiamo la nostra vita privata come tutti, ma non mescoliamo mai lavoro con vita privata. Ci teniamo molto!

18.Qual è stato il momento più significativo della vostra carriera?

Il momento In cui i ragazzi di RockerTV ci hanno aiutato e donato il loro spazio e tempo. Per questo li ringrazieremo sempre!

19. Come vi rilassate dopo un concerto?

Con un sospiro e un abbraccio.

20. Qual è il miglior consiglio che avete ricevuto nella vostra carriera musicale?

Siate il più possibili innovativi e voi stessi. Abbiate un identità particolare!

Dark Aries Project - Sophya 

Attenzione! Questo non è un brano dei "Dark Aries Project"... 
O meglio, non è quello a cui ci hanno abituato fino a d'ora, ma, se sorprendere è il punto di forza del progetto, allora questo è a tutti gli effetti Dark Aries al cento per cento! 

Chi conosce i virtuosismi iper-tecnici di Ilink, misterioso compositore e chitarrista dell'intero progetto, rimarrà spiazzato dalla "semplicità" di "Sophya", brano molto intimo che non avrebbe sfigurato in un'antologia Gothic assieme a "Paradise Lost" e "My Dying Bride" (con leggeri rimandi alle chitarre di "The Edge" degli "U2"). 

E con semplicità non intendo banalità, ma qualcosa di molto diretto e coinvolgente a livello emotivo, rispetto all'iperbole chitarristica che di solito non manca nelle sue composizioni. 

Il brano è un intro, e si nota, perché sembra non decollare mai, in previsione di quello che verrà. A dispetto della sua lunghezza, fila via liscio verso la fine senza che ci si accorga (punto di forza, secondo me). È pieno di piccoli particolari che spezzano l'andamento; il mood è dark, e tira fuori l'anima più eterea del compositore, e, a ben vedere, dà anche più un senso al nome del progetto. 

Qualcosa a cui non siamo abituati, dicevo, ma un'altra perla da conservare gelosamente. 

D.A.P. (Dark Aries Project) è un progetto metal solista sperimentale, arricchito di elementi horror, emerso nel 2017 ma che ha guadagnato visibilità principalmente dal 2020 in poi. Creato da Ilinx, chitarrista
precedente dei Nænia, Varganath, e musicista di sessione per Walls Of Ashes, il progetto ha completato diversi EP e album, con solo due che hanno ottenuto un modesto successo finora.

Il progetto è nato dall’ idea di voler fare tutto da solo dal momento in cui l’ unico componente si è reso conto di essere troppo elastico nei generi e di non avere troppa pazienza nel collaborare con altre menti.

Sono 5 gli Ep/album che hanno avuto piú seguito, legati tra di loro da una storia contorta e particolare. The Walk Of The Archons, Project 66 e Ilinx Dream, Echoes Of Oppression, Novus Ordo Ilinx!
I 5 Ep/album sono collegati da argomenti esoterici e sci-fi, legando scienza e spiritualità sotto un unico filone.

Il nuovo singolo “Sophya”, apre ad un futuro album, dove Ilinx viene rinchiuso nelle Backrooms come punizione per essersi ribellato al sistema tirannico di Sophya. Lì incontra Meg (Mandatory Existence Guidelines / linee Guida obbligatorie per l’ esistenza) che all’ inizio sarà la sua guardia personale, ma Ilinx riuscirà a convertirla e a uscire dalle Backrooms.

Sophya viene rappresentata come un pianeta buio e cupo, controllato da un ipotetico Arconte. Il brano è un mix tra Post Rock, horror, e post metal.

1. How did your band come into existence?

The project isn’t exactly a band, but rather a collective of artists who joined forces and brought the Dark Aries Project to what it is today! The mastermind is Ilinx, who created everything back in 2017, producer and main musician.

2. What are your main musical influences?

They’re truly vast. If we had to name a few artists, we’d say: Poppy, Distant Dream, God Is An Astronaut, 3Teeth, Code Orange, Sleep Token, Widek, etc.

3. How would you describe your musical style?

Unique. We range from extreme metal to experimental sounds, with pop and hip-hop influences as well. I’d say: experimental.

4. What’s the meaning behind your band’s name?

Aries means Ram, which in the Bible is an animal sacrificed in the name of God. We tied that symbolism into the project’s lore.

5. What has been your most memorable concert experience?

Definitely the one at Rock 'n' Roll in Milan, lots of people were connected to the characters, and we had a blast. It was pure chaos.

6. How is one of your songs born?

There are different methods, but we like to keep the full process mysterious! Generally, we always start from the rhythmic sections.

7. What’s your lyric-writing process?

There are no full lyrics, but sometimes a phrase or reference appears.

8. How do you decide which songs to include in an album?

Usually, we already have a clear idea. When a track is finished and it sounds the way we want, it gets included.

9. Do you have any special rituals before entering the recording studio?

Yes! But we can’t reveal that just yet.

10. What has been the most difficult song to write and why?

Probably The Thread Between Our Souls, from the album Project 66. It was very challenging composition-wise at the time.

11. What can we expect from your next album?

There will definitely be a shift, more experimentation, slightly higher quality, and most importantly, a very significant music video that many fans will appreciate!

12. Do you have any collaborations planned with other artists?

Absolutely yes, but those will be available next year.

13. What are your long-term goals as a band?

To tour as much as possible, bring our characters to life, share them with the audience, and leave a lasting impression on people’s minds.

14. Is there any musical genre you’d like to explore in the future?

We’re always looking to explore new genres, but Ilinx already has an eye on Phonk music!

15. What are your plans for the coming year?

More live shows, improved production quality and video content. Expect something really wild, the team is growing fast.

16. What is your favorite album of all time?

Antares by Sybreed.

17. What do you do in your free time when you're not working on music?

We have our private lives like everyone else, but we never mix work with personal life. We really care about keeping them separate!

18. What has been the most significant moment in your career?

When the people at RockerTV helped us and gave us their space and time. We’ll always be grateful to them!

19. How do you relax after a concert?

With a deep breath and a hug.

20. What’s the best advice you’ve received in your music career?

Be as innovative and true to yourself as possible. Have a unique identity!

Dark Aries Project - Sophya  

 

Attention! This is not a typical track from "Dark Aries Project"...  

Or rather, it's not what we've been accustomed to so far. But if surprise is the project's strength, then this is, in every way, Dark Aries at its core!  

 

Those familiar with the hyper-technical virtuosity of Ilink, the mysterious composer and guitarist behind the entire project, will be taken aback by the "simplicity" of Sophya—a deeply intimate piece that wouldn't have been out of place in a Gothic anthology alongside Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride (with subtle echoes of The Edge's guitar work from U2).  

 

And by simplicity, I don't mean banality, but rather something raw and emotionally engaging, in contrast to the guitar-driven hyperbole usually present in Ilink's compositions.  

 

The track serves as an introduction, and it's evident—it never truly takes off, instead anticipating what is to come. Despite its length, it flows effortlessly towards the end before one even realizes (which, in my opinion, is a strong point). It is filled with subtle details that break its rhythm; the mood is dark, revealing the most ethereal side of the composer, and upon closer look, it gives even greater meaning to the project's name.  

 

Something we are not used to, as I mentioned—but nonetheless, another gem to treasure dearly.

D.A.P. (Dark Aries Project) is an experimental solo metal project, enriched with horror elements. It emerged in 2017 but gained visibility primarily from 2020 onwards. Created by Ilinx, former guitarist of Nænia and Varganath, and session musician for Walls Of Ashes, the project has released several EPs and albums, only two of which have so far achieved modest success.

The project was born from the desire to do everything independently, after the sole member realized he was too versatile in genres and lacked the patience to collaborate with other creative minds.

There are five EPs/albums that have gained the most following, all linked by a twisted and distinctive storyline:

• The Walk Of The Archons

• Project 66

• Ilinx Dream

• Echoes Of Oppression

• Novus Ordo Ilinx

These five works are connected through esoteric and sci-fi themes, blending science and spirituality into a single narrative thread.

The latest single, “Sophya,” opens the way to a future album. In the story, Ilinx is imprisoned in the Backrooms as punishment for rebelling against Sophya’s tyrannical system. There, he meets Meg (Mandatory Existence Guidelines), who initially acts as his personal guard, but Ilinx eventually manages to convert her and escape the Backrooms.

Sophya is portrayed as a dark, oppressive planet controlled by a hypothetical Archon.
The track is a blend of Post-Rock, Horror, and Post-Metal.
