INDIE STORM INTERVIEW:
SIXBASS  

1.) Quali sono le tue principali influenze musicali?

Ascolto diversi generi musicali ma senza dubbio è nel Rock e nel Metal e nelle loro declinazioni che mi ritrovo maggiormente. Ho studiato in una scuola di musica prettamente jazz, tuttavia il mio stile è influenzato da molte commistioni musicali.

 

2.) Come descriveresti il tuo stile musicale?

Essendo bassista, punto in prima istanza sul groove, ma conferisco molta importanza anche all’aspetto armonico e melodico. Non sono una virtuosa dello strumento, anche se mi cimento con entusiasmo nell’apprendere tecniche e stili differenti. Mi piace mettermi al servizio dell’evoluzione del brano e spaziare tra i generi. 

 

3.) Qual è il tuo luogo preferito dove suonare?

Spesso abbandono la home studio per suonare all’aria aperta, anche d’inverno nelle giornate di sole, in un terrazzino di casa con vista Alpi piemontesi e dove ho riposto anche un amplificatore.

 

4.) Cosa possiamo aspettarci dal tuo prossimo album?

Nei prossimi mesi registrerò e pubblicherò tre singoli sui quali sto lavorando e, in seguito, realizzerò un EP contenente 4 brani editi e almeno un inedito.

 

5.) Hai collaborazioni in programma con altri artisti?

 

Sì, Poco o niente (pubblicato lo scorso 4 giugno) vede la partecipazione di Matteo Lassandro dei FIVE WAYS TO NOWHERE (mia ultima band) alla chitarra e, dal momento che per la prima volta nella mia carriera musicale sto producendo in solitaria, mi avvarrò di altre collaborazioni con amici musicisti nei prossimi brani. Mi manca la vita da band e mi auguro di poterla riabbracciare quanto prima. 

 

6.) C’è qualche genere musicale che vorresti esplorare in futuro?

 

Sì, mi piacerebbe approcciarmi al reggae e dar vita a un progetto elettronico caratterizzato da basso, batteria e sequenze.

 

7.) Qual è il tuo album preferito di tutti i tempi?

 

Sono tanti gli album che reputo significativi nella Storia della Musica, in particolare nel Rock, e come colonna sonora della mia vita. Per citarne qualcuno: Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Black album, Ten, Nevermind, Bad, Kind of Blue, Catch the fire, Led Zeppelin IV, Rage Against the Machine, Innuendo ecc. A ogni modo credo che A NIGHT OF THE OPERA del 1975 dei Queen sia quello a cui devo di più in assoluto perché contiene il capolavoro di Rock Opera “Bohemian Rapsody”.

Brano trascinante e pieno di energia questa "Poco o niente", che a dispetto del titolo non ha ne un testo ne una parte vocale a spiegarne il significato.

Dopo un intro dove si capisce qual'è lo strumento principale, inizia un riff di chitarra che ricorda I Kinks, riff tra l'altro ripreso in molti modi da diverse band.

Il brano ti prende da subito per un orecchio e ti trascina nel centro della sala, lasciandoti li ad aspettare un evoluzione che a breve scatenerà tutta una serie di emozioni contrastanti, si perché "Poco o niente" è una vera e propria canzone con un messaggio, e non un semplice brano strumentale.

Quello che nella strofa sembra il classico Hard Rock sostenuto, e quasi dance, si trasforma in ogni passaggio.
In quella che sembra essere la parte di ritornello c'è il Grunge più energetico di Nirvana Hole e Foo Fighters, che fa da contrasto alla prima parte, ma è nel bridge che il brano si trasfigura del tutto; la sensazione è estraniante, si crea volutamente un pathos che ti trascina fuori da quel centro della sala dove fino a poco prima ti stavi divertendo, e ti spinge contro un muro a forza, lasciandoti un senso di impotenza e rabbia, solo per tenderti una mano nel finale, dandoti un filo di speranza, che di solito è l' ultima a morire.

Il messaggio tra la musica e il titolo è chiaro, nonostante nella vita ci capitino situazioni disperate, dove ognuno di noi si sente perso, bisogna tirarsi su le maniche e andare avanti, più forti di prima.

Questo è "Poco o niente", un raggio di luce dopo una tempesta.

SILVIA CASETTA - BASSISTA

 

Silvia Casetta, SixBass per gli amici musicisti, inizia il suo percorso artistico da bambina avvalendosi delle arti come canali espressivi e terapeutici. 

 

Nel '95, incontra per la prima volta il basso elettrico, ma solo nel 1998 intraprenderà lo studio dello strumento presso il Percstudio del maestro Gandino e fonderà con Massimo Inghiomirelli (ex Medusa) i SISTEMA NERVOSO, band rock crossover con cantato in italiano, finalista di Sanremo rock 2001 e con la quale farà esperienza live e studio.

 

Dal 2004 si dedica ad altri progetti e allo studio del basso elettrico; nel 2007 consegue un attestato professionale da tecnico del suono e, nel 2008, una Laurea Magistrale di II livello in Istituzioni di Storia della Musica con una tesi sui Queen.

 

Dal 2009 al 2015 si dedica al power trio rock JIGABITEZ con i quali registrerà l'album "Con La Gei" e farà da supporto a Pablo Mendoza ed a Stef Burns.

 

Nel 2014 intraprende il lavoro di docente nella Scuola Primaria, dove ha modo di mettere in pratica la propedeutica e la didattica musicale con i bambini.

 

Nel 2015 entra a far parte dei FIVE WAYS TO NOWHERE, con i quali registra un EP e realizza il video del singolo Obsessed.

 

Nel 2016 è costretta a sospendere bruscamente la propria attività di musicista a causa dell' aggravarsi delle condizioni di salute.

 

Ritorna sul palco dei Magazzini Musicali Merula in diretta streaming l'8 marzo 2025 in occasione dell'evento Rock Musae con una clinic individuale nella quale propone due brani inediti. 

 

Nell'aprile del 2025 pubblica il primo singolo Pioggia e partecipa  come ospite al concerto del decimo anniversario dei Five Ways To Nowhere presso il Supermarket di Torino. 

 

1.) What are your main musical influences?

I listen to various musical genres, but without a doubt, I find myself most at home in Rock and Metal and their subgenres.
I studied at a music school with a strong focus on jazz, but my style is influenced by a wide range of musical fusions.

 

2.) How would you describe your musical style?

As a bassist, I primarily focus on the groove, but I also give great importance to harmony and melody.  I’m not a virtuoso on the instrument, although I enthusiastically enjoy exploring different techniques and styles. I like to serve the development of the song and move freely across genres.

 

3.) What is your favorite place to play?

I often leave my home studio to play outdoors—even in winter on sunny days—on a little terrace at home with a view of the Piedmont Alps, where I’ve even placed an amplifier.

 

4.) What can we expect from your next album?

In the coming months, I’ll be recording and releasing three singles I’m currently working on. After that, I’ll release an EP featuring four previously released tracks and at least one new, unreleased song.

 

5.) Do you have any upcoming collaborations with other artists?

Yes. Poco o niente (released on June 4) features Matteo Lassandro from FIVE WAYS TO NOWHERE (my most recent band) on guitar.
Since I’m producing music solo for the first time in my career, I’ll be collaborating with other musician friends on the upcoming tracks.
I miss band life and I hope to return to it as soon as possible.

6.) Is there a musical genre you’d like to explore in the future?

Yes, I’d love to dive into reggae and create an electronic project based on bass, drums, and sequenced elements.

 

7.) What is your all-time favorite album?

There are many albums I consider significant in the history of music—especially in rock—and as part of the soundtrack of my life.
To name a few: Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Black Album, Ten, Nevermind, Bad, Kind of Blue, Catch a Fire, Led Zeppelin IV, Rage Against the Machine, Innuendo, and more. That said, I believe A Night at the Opera (1975) by Queen is the one I owe the most to, as it features the rock opera masterpiece Bohemian Rhapsody.

 

A captivating track full of energy, 'Poco o niente,' which, despite its title, doesn’t have a direct lyric or vocal part explaining its meaning.

After an intro where you can tell what the main instrument is, a guitar riff begins that recalls The Kinks, a riff that has been revisited in many ways by various bands.

The song grabs you right away, pulling you in and dropping you right in the middle of the room, leaving you there waiting for an evolution that will soon unleash a series of conflicting emotions. Yes, because 'Poco o niente' is a true song with a message, not just a simple instrumental track.

What seems like a classic, heavy Hard Rock verse, almost dance-like, transforms with every passage.
In what seems to be the chorus part, there’s the most energetic Grunge, like Nirvana, Hole, and Foo Fighters, which contrasts with the first part. But it’s in the bridge that the song completely transforms; the feeling is disorienting, a sense of tension is deliberately created that pulls you out of the center of the room, where just moments ago you were enjoying yourself, and forces you against a wall, leaving you with a feeling of helplessness and anger, only to offer you a hand in the end, giving you a glimmer of hope, the one thing that usually never dies.

The message between the music and the title is clear: despite desperate situations in life, when we all feel lost, we need to roll up our sleeves and move forward, stronger than before.

This is 'Poco o niente,' a ray of light after a storm.

 

 

Silvia Casetta, also known among fellow musicians as SixBass, began her artistic journey as a child, using the arts as both a means of expression and a therapeutic outlet.

She first encountered the electric bass in 1995, but it wasn’t until 1998 that she formally began studying the instrument at Percstudio under Maestro Gandino. That same year, she co-founded the rock crossover band SISTEMA NERVOSO with Massimo Inghiomirelli (formerly of Medusa). The band, which featured Italian lyrics, reached the finals of Sanremo Rock 2001 and gave Silvia her first real experience with live performance and studio work.

From 2004, she dedicated herself to other projects and further bass studies. In 2007, she earned a professional certificate in sound engineering, followed by a second-level Master’s degree in the History of Music Institutions in 2008, with a thesis focused on Queen.

Between 2009 and 2015, Silvia was the bassist of the rock power trio JIGABITEZ, with whom she recorded the album Con La Gei and opened for Pablo Mendoza and Stef Burns.

In 2014, she began working as a primary school teacher, where she applied her expertise in music education and early childhood music methodology.

In 2015, she joined FIVE WAYS TO NOWHERE, recording an EP and shooting the video for the single Obsessed.

In 2016, Silvia had to suspend her musical activities due to a worsening health condition.

She made her return to the stage on March 8, 2025, at Magazzini Musicali Merula, in a live-streamed performance during the Rock Musae event. There, she held a solo bass clinic, where she performed two original unreleased tracks.

In April 2025, Silvia released her first solo single, Pioggia, and also took part as a special guest in the 10th anniversary concert of Five Ways To Nowhere, held at Supermarket in Turin.
