INDIE STORM INTERVIEW:
NESSUNO ESCLUSO

1. Come è nata la vostra band?

I Nessuno Escluso sono l’evoluzione di un progetto folk acustico chitarra voce e contrabbasso che nel giro di un anno e mezzo è virato verso il rock con conseguenti cambi nella formazione fino all’arrivo del Raffo nel marzo ‘23 che ha chiuso il cerchio.

2. Quali sono le vostre principali influenze musicali?

Veniamo da esperienza musicali e sonorità molto diverse, dal punk-rock, al post-core, dal pop-rock al rock anni 70, dall’elettro-pop al southern rock, per cui ognuno porta le proprie esperienza ed i
proprio gusti musicali all’interno di quello che facciamo...però non ci limitiamo al farci influenzare direttamente da ciò che facciamo ma, cerchiamo di plasmare le nostre influenze in funzione del nostro sound

3. Come descrivereste il vostro stile musicale?

Il nostro stile si basa molto sulle dinamiche, sul groove, sulle liriche e linee melodiche. Ci piace l’idea di avere un sound diretto come il Rock, ma ricercato come l’Indie, in ogni caso senza troppi fronzoli...lo definiamo Power-Indie-Rock, ma per semplificazione ci presentiamo come band Indie-Rock.

 

4. Qual è il significato dietro il nome della vostra band?

Nessuno Escluso vuole avere una doppia valenza. Vuole essere in primo luogo un messaggio culturale/sociale dove nessuno debba sentirsi escluso, emarginato dalla società, ed in secondo luogo
vuole essere una esortazione a sentirsi responsabile, ognuno nel proprio piccolo, di ciò che sarà domani.

5. Qual è il processo di scrittura dei testi e delle canzoni?

I testi li scrivo principalmente io (Massimo voce e chitarra) e principalmente la notte, in quelle notti insonni dove la testa vaga e rimbalza di pensiero in pensiero...quasi sempre i testi irrompono in
maniera istintiva già con una linea melodica e con un portamento. In genere se ciò che scrivo mi piace, il giorno dopo sento l’urgenza di completare con musica ed arrangiamenti che però vengono
poi lavorati in sala, tutti insieme sua una idea già formata.

6. Come decidete quali canzoni includere in un album?

Al momento abbiamo pubblicato 4 singoli e la scelta è sempre stata immediata e veloce...per i primi tre...per il quarto (NIENTE DA TE uscito ad inizio giugno 25), invece la scelta è stata più difficile
perché avevamo un ventaglio ampio ed eterogeneo e nonostante tutte ci convincessero, eravamo indecisi su quale fosse la naturale conseguenza delle prime 3 uscite.

 

7. Avete qualche rituale particolare prima di entrare in studio di registrazione?

 

Rituale vero e proprio no...però è sempre accaduto che 2-3 giorni prima di entrare in studio, quindi con già tutto deciso e studiato nei minimi dettagli, io abbia suggerito modifiche migliorative che
sono sempre state accettate con entusiasmo, ma che poi in studio hanno creato qualche piccola difficoltà soprattutto per Marco (batterista) che è il primo a presentarsi.

 

8. C’è qualche genere musicale che vorreste esplorare in futuro?

Il Post-Core è un genere che ci affascina molto....tempi spezzati, canzoni con molta dinamica fra le parti, parti che passano dal furioso al sospeso e viceversa, lunghe parti strumentali, chitarre molto
distorte con un sound spostato sulle basse...tutto questo è lontano dal nostro sound attuale, ma ci piace ed affascina...vedremo.

 

9. Quali sono i vostri piani per il prossimo anno?

 

Al momento (luglio 25) siamo appena entrati in studio per la produzione di una nuovo singolo che dovrebbe uscire a settembre/ottobre e che sarà accompagnato come sempre da un videoclip, dopodiché credo per gennaio, uscirà un EP contenente tutti gli editi più 2 nuovi singoli inediti.

 

10. Quali sono i vostri obiettivi a lungo termine come band?

Dopo l’uscita dell’ EP ci piacerebbe concentrarci sull’attività live, intensificandola e espandendola e contemporaneamente continuare a scrivere nuovo materiale che nel tempo dovrebbe andare a
comporre il nostro primo album, ma ancora è presto per parlare di tempistiche.

11. C’è qualche genere musicale che vorreste esplorare in futuro?

Il Post-Core è un genere che ci affascina molto....tempi spezzati, canzoni con molta dinamica fra le parti, parti che passano dal furioso al sospeso e viceversa, lunghe parti strumentali, chitarre molto
distorte con un sound spostato sulle basse...tutto questo è lontano dal nostro sound attuale, ma ci piace ed affascina...vedremo.

Meraviglioso intro quello di "Niente da te", che ricorda da subito gli "AC/DC", e certe atmosfere AOR anni 80, ma lungi dall' esserne una copia, vuoi per le vocals in italiano sullo stile Grunge anni 90, come pure la parte strumentale nel ritornello.

Un perfetto mix di stili che può sembrare inaccostabile e invece è funzionale alla canzone e le da un tiro inaspettato.

I riferimenti sono sicuramente i Timoria di Renga, e tutta la scuola Italo New wave/Grunge.

Il testo descrive una situazione nella quale spesso ci ritroviamo tutti, essere trasportati da un passato che ci ha fatto particolarmente bene e male allo stesso tempo, dal quale è sentimentalmente difficile staccarsi, uscirne del tutto, perché le ferite sono ancora troppo profonde e aperte, ma che inevitabilmente ha bisogno di essere lasciato andare se vogliamo andare avanti.

Un autodiagnosi per guarire.

 

 

I Nessuno Escluso sono formati da Massimo Morelli (chitarra e voce principale), Raffaele Polito
(basso e seconda voce), Marco Miai (batteria).
Iniziano a prendere forma nel settembre 2022 con l’arrivo di Marco alla batteria
che si unisce al duo acustico già in essere che vedeva la presenza di Massimo Morelli alla chitarra
acustica e Maurizio Spina al contrabbasso.
Marco porta la sua spiccata vena rock all’interno della formazione ed il sound si sposta verso
ambienti più rock, che via via diventa sempre più dinamico e sostenuto, abbandonando
progressivamente la venatura folk.
I primi mesi vengono passati alla stesura di nuovi brani originali e alla ricerca di un sound
personale, riprendendo anche brani acustici già scritti ai quali viene messo un vestito più rock.
Ancora però la formazione è molto sperimentale ed solo con l’arrivo di Raffa al basso,
nell’aprile/maggio 2023 che il gruppo prende definitivamente vita, trovando una forma, una strada,
un sound riconoscibile, un nome; Nessuno Escluso.
A marzo 2024 viene avviata una collaborazione con l’agenzia di management Sorry Mum, che
porterà i Nessuno Escluso a pubblicare i propri lavori durante il 2024.
A maggio 2024 viene pubblicato il primo singolo dal titolo Liberazione 64 e si mettono le basi per
la pubblicazione del secondo singolo.
A luglio 2024 esce Catene, secondo singolo della band che viene accompagnato da un videoclip
girato presso il Lab9 di Sesto Fiorentino con la produzione e postproduzione di Peppe Catalanotto e
si inizia la produzione audio/video del terzo singolo della band dal titolo Incontro di boxe che uscirà
nell’autunno 24.
Dopo la pubblicazione del terzo singolo, si apre il 25 con la pubblicazione di “Niente da te” in
attesa di un ulteriore singolo da pubblicare nel 2025 che sarà il preludio al primo EP della band.

Sound graffiante, dinamico, a volte volutamente scarno e privo di dimostrazioni fini a se stesse, testi
introspettivi a cavallo fra il dolce e l’amaro, che parlano di emozioni, riflessioni di vita, difficoltà e
bellezza che si da nell’essere qui ed ora.
Un Power-Trio atipico che attraverso la musica ha come primo obiettivo l'espressione di se stessi,
dell’essere vivi, dell’essere veri.

 

1.How did your band come together?

Nessuno Escluso is the evolution of an acoustic folk project with guitar, voice, and double bass. In about a year and a half, it shifted towards rock, with several lineup changes until Raffo joined in March '23, which completed the circle.

2.What are your main musical influences?

We come from very diverse musical backgrounds, ranging from punk rock to post-core, pop-rock to '70s rock, electro-pop to southern rock. Each of us brings their own experiences and musical tastes into what we do. However, we don’t just limit ourselves to being directly influenced by these styles; we try to shape our influences to suit our sound.

3.How would you describe your musical style?

Our style is very much based on dynamics, groove, lyrics, and melodic lines. We like the idea of having a sound as direct as rock but as refined as indie. In any case, we avoid excessive embellishments... we call it Power-Indie-Rock, but for simplicity, we present ourselves as an Indie-Rock band.

4.What is the meaning behind your band name?

Nessuno Escluso has a double meaning. First, it aims to be a cultural/social message where no one should feel excluded or marginalized by society. Second, it’s a call for personal responsibility, encouraging each of us, in our own small way, to take ownership of what the future will look like.

5.What is your process for writing lyrics and songs?

I (Massimo, vocals and guitar) mainly write the lyrics, usually at night, during those sleepless hours when my mind wanders and bounces from thought to thought. Most of the time, the lyrics come to me instinctively, already with a melody and a certain feel. Generally, if I like what I've written, I feel the urgency to complete it with music and arrangements the following day. However, these are then worked on together in the rehearsal space, refining an already-formed idea.

6.How do you decide which songs to include in an album?

So far, we’ve released 4 singles, and the decision has always been quick and immediate for the first three. For the fourth one ("NIENTE DA TE," released in early June 2025), the choice was more difficult because we had a wide and diverse range of options. Even though we were convinced by all of them, we were unsure which would be the natural progression after the first three releases.

7.Do you have any particular rituals before entering the recording studio?

No real rituals, but it always happens that 2-3 days before heading to the studio, when everything is already decided and studied in detail, I suggest some improvements, which are always eagerly accepted. However, these changes sometimes cause small difficulties in the studio, especially for Marco (our drummer), who is the first to show up.

8.Is there a musical genre you would like to explore in the future?

Post-core is a genre that fascinates us a lot-broken tempos, songs with a lot of dynamics between sections, parts that swing from furious to suspended and vice versa, long instrumental breaks, heavily distorted guitars with a low-end-focused sound. This is quite far from our current sound, but we like it and find it captivating... we’ll see.

9.What are your plans for the coming year?

As of now (July 2025), we’ve just entered the studio to produce a new single, which should be released in September/October, and it will be accompanied, as usual, by a music video. After that, I believe an EP will be released in January, containing all the previous singles plus 2 new, unreleased tracks.

10.What are your long-term goals as a band?

After the EP release, we’d like to focus on live performances, intensifying and expanding them. At the same time, we’ll continue writing new material, which will eventually make up our first album, but it's still too early to talk about timelines.

11.Is there a musical genre you would like to explore in the future?

Wonderful intro in 'Niente da te,' which immediately recalls AC/DC and certain 80s AOR atmospheres, but far from being a copy, also due to the Italian vocals in a 90s Grunge style, as well as the instrumental part in the chorus.

A perfect mix of styles that may seem incompatible, but instead, it works for the song and gives it an unexpected punch.

The references are definitely the Timoria of Renga and the whole Italo New Wave/Grunge scene.

The lyrics describe a situation many of us often find ourselves in, being carried away by a past that has both hurt and healed us at the same time, a past from which it’s emotionally difficult to detach, to fully break free, because the wounds are still too deep and open, but which inevitably needs to be let go of if we want to move forward.

A self-diagnosis for healing.

 

Nessuno Escluso is a power trio composed of Massimo Morelli (guitar and lead vocals), Raffaele Polito (bass and backing vocals), and Marco Miai (drums).

The band began to take shape in September 2022 with the arrival of Marco on drums, who joined the already active acoustic duo featuring Massimo Morelli on acoustic guitar and Maurizio Spina on double bass. Marco brought a strong rock influence into the project, gradually steering the sound away from its folk roots and towards a more dynamic and energetic rock direction.

The first few months were spent writing original songs and searching for a distinctive sound. They also revisited earlier acoustic material, giving it a new, rock-oriented edge. At this stage, however, the lineup was still experimental. It wasn’t until April/May 2023, with Raffaele joining on bass, that the project truly solidified. With a clear identity, a defined style, and a recognizable sound, the band finally found its name: Nessuno Escluso ("No One Excluded").

In March 2024, the band began a collaboration with the management agency Sorry Mum, which paved the way for their official releases during the year.

Their first single, Liberazione 64, was released in May 2024, marking the beginning of their recording journey.
In July 2024, they followed up with their second single, Catene, accompanied by a music video shot at Lab9 in Sesto Fiorentino, produced and edited by Peppe Catalanotto.
Currently, the band is working on the production of their third single, Incontro di boxe, set to be released in Autumn 2024.

The start of 2025 will see the release of Niente da te, followed by another single later in the year, which will serve as a prelude to the band’s debut EP.

Musical Style

Nessuno Escluso delivers a gritty, dynamic, and intentionally raw sound—free from unnecessary embellishments and focused on emotional authenticity.
Their lyrics are introspective, walking the line between sweetness and bitterness, and explore themes such as emotions, life reflections, struggles, and the beauty of simply being here and now.
