MAUNA  LOA

1. Come nasce una vostra canzone?

Le nostre canzoni nascono tutte dalle nostre esperienze negative e positive, e a volte da racconti che ascoltiamo e/o semplicemente notizie. Se un argomento ci colpisce nel profondo cerchiamo di farlo sentire.

2. Cosa possiamo aspettarci dal vostro prossimo album?

 

Sul prossimo album (il nostro terzo album), stiamo trattando quella che è la vita digitale. Questo mondo che ormai si riconosce come casa più di quello reale.

3. Avete collaborazioni in programma con altri artisti?

Proprio per questo singolo Io Dico No abbiamo collaborato con Psiker (Massimo Curcio). La proposta l’abbiamo avanzata noi, volemmo esprimere un messaggio, ma con due stili diversi. Speriamo di esserci riuscito.

 

4. Cosa fate nel tempo libero quando non siete impegnati con la musica?

 

Sinceramente ci vediamo veramente poco, a parte la musica, ognuno ha i suoi impegni i suoi problemi, ma se qualcuno è in diƯicoltà cerchiamo di esserci. Poi quando ci chiudiamo in sala prove tutto il resto cerchiamo di lascarlo fuori.

 

5. Quali sono i vostri piani per il prossimo anno?

 

I piani sono davvero tanti ma pochi si potranno realizzare ci vorrebbe più tempo e quello non basta mai e come dice Massimo in Io Dico No “passa senza guardarsi attorno”. Speriamo col prossimo album di regalarvi qualche canzone in più, e soprattutto che il nostro messaggio venga ascoltato.

 

C' è qualcosa che mi mette i brividi ascoltando "Io dico no" dei "Mauna Loa", i suoni catchy ti riportano dritto agli anni 80, e la cura del dettaglio non che la produzione ti fa venire voglia di ascoltarla e riascoltarla.

La song è un mix di stili molto vari, c' è dell' Hard Rock ma anche un pizzico di Heavy Metal e anche del "Grunge", inteso come energia del suono anni 90, dove tante band scelsero quel nuovo sound alternativo, e ha veramente qualcosa di fresco.

La cosa che più colpisce è il salto di scala tra strofa e ritornello per niente scontato, gli inserti di tastiera nel bridge che cambiano totalmente il mood alla canzone, e la voce stupenda della cantante.

Il testo è una critica alla società moderna che "socializza" tutto, anche le cose che una volta volevamo solo nostre, una società che sembra correre di continuo senza sapere realmente dove sta andando.

Sicuramente è così, e a noi tutti di Thunder Rock viene voglia di dire, NO...

Nati nel 2017 con l’intento di proporre musica originale in italiano, i Mauna Loa hanno pubblicato il loro
primo album omonimo nel dicembre 2021, un lavoro genuino, diretto e privo di orpelli, con uno stile che
mescola rock melodico e immediatezza comunicativa. Con Scarabocchi secondo album uscito nel 2024, i
Mauna Loa continuano il loro percorso artistico fatto di autenticità, emozioni quotidiane e rock vissuto,
riportando al centro la fragilità che diventa forza attraverso la musica.

In attesa del loro terzo album, I Mauna Loa in collaborazione con Psiker (Massimo Curcio), tirano fuori un
nuovo singolo "Io Dico No", un urlo disperato contro questa ondata di violenza giovanile, unendo generi
musicali diversi tra loro ma con lo stesso messaggio. Ha partecipato anche al progetto Greta Ferri come
seconda voce e cori.

 

1. How does one of your songs come to life?

 

Our songs are all born from our negative and positive experiences, and sometimes from stories we hear or simply from news. If a topic strikes us deeply, we try to make it felt through our music.

 

2. What can we expect from your next album?

 

On our next album (our third), we are exploring digital life. This world that now feels more like home than the real one.

 

3. Do you have any collaborations planned with other artists?

 

For this single Io Dico No, we collaborated with Psiker (Massimo Curcio). We initiated the collaboration because we wanted to express a message, but with two different styles. We hope we succeeded.

 

4. What do you do in your free time when you're not busy with music?

 

Honestly, we see each other very little outside of music. Each of us has our own commitments and problems, but if someone is in difficulty, we try to be there for them. Then, when we lock ourselves in the rehearsal room, we try to leave everything else outside.

 

5. What are your plans for next year?

 

There are many plans, but few will be realized—there's never enough time. As Massimo says in Io Dico No, "it passes without looking around." We hope that with the next album, we can give you a few more songs and, most importantly, that our message will be heard.

 

 

There's something that gives me chills when I listen to "Io dico no" by Mauna Loa. The catchy sounds take you straight back to the '80s, and the attention to detail , along with the production ,  makes you want to listen to it over and over again.

The song is a mix of very different styles; there's Hard Rock, a touch of Heavy Metal, and even some Grunge ,  understood as the raw '90s energy, when many bands embraced that new alternative sound ,  and it truly feels fresh.

What stands out the most is the unexpected key change between the verse and chorus, the keyboard inserts in the bridge that completely shift the mood of the track, and the singer’s amazing voice.

The lyrics criticize modern society, which "socializes" everything ,  even the things we once wanted to keep just for ourselves ,  a society that seems to always be running without really knowing where it's headed.

And it’s definitely like that. All of us here at Thunder Rock feel like saying: NO...

Born in 2017 with the intention of proposing original music in Italian, Mauna Loa released their first self-titled album in December 2021. It is a genuine, direct work, free of frills, with a style that blends melodic rock and communicative immediacy. With Scarabocchi, their second album released in 2024, Mauna Loa continue their artistic journey, marked by authenticity, everyday emotions, and lived rock, bringing back the fragility that turns into strength through music.

While awaiting their third album, Mauna Loa, in collaboration with Psiker (Massimo Curcio), have released a new single, "Io Dico No," a desperate cry against the wave of youth violence. The track merges different musical genres but carries the same message. Greta Ferri also contributed to the project, providing backing vocals and harmonies.
