Trama:
Una cometa passa vicino alla Terra e, inspiegabilmente, tutte le macchine prendono vita. Dai camion ai bancomat, dai distributori automatici ai tagliaerba: ogni apparecchio elettrico diventa improvvisamente ostile e assassino.
Un gruppo di sopravvissuti si rifugia in una stazione di servizio sull’autostrada, assediato da camion semoventi che girano in tondo come predatori affamati. Il leader improvvisato è Bill (Emilio Estevez), ex detenuto costretto a combattere contro… mezzi pesanti posseduti.

Curiosità:
È l’unico film diretto da Stephen King. Lo stesso autore ha ammesso in seguito che era sotto forte uso di cocaina e alcol durante le riprese e che non ricorda quasi nulla del film.
Il film è tratto dal suo racconto breve Trucks, pubblicato nella raccolta Night Shift.
Il camion “leader” (quello con la faccia del Green Goblin sulla maschera) è diventato un’icona dell’horror kitsch anni '80.
Nonostante sia stato stroncato dalla critica e dallo stesso King, è diventato nel tempo un cult movie, apprezzato per la sua assurdità e il tono involontariamente comico.
Nel film appare Stephen King in un cameo, nei panni di un uomo insultato da un bancomat posseduto (“You’re an asshole!”).
Commento critico:
Maximum Overdrive è un film che non funziona quasi mai come horror, ma funziona spesso come divertimento trash. Ha un ritmo folle, effetti speciali sanguinolenti e situazioni talmente esagerate da diventare involontariamente comiche. È il classico film che fa pensare: “Era serio o ci prendeva in giro?”
Eppure, proprio nella sua totale anarchia narrativa, nella colonna sonora che spacca e nelle macchine assassine che girano in tondo senza senso, si nasconde un fascino caotico e irresistibile.

Plot:

This is the only film directed by Stephen King. He later admitted he was heavily under the influence of cocaine and alcohol during filming and remembers very little of it.
The movie is based on his short story Trucks, published in the Night Shift collection.
The “lead” truck (with the Green Goblin face on the grill) has become an icon of '80s kitsch horror.
Despite being panned by critics—and even by King himself—it has become a cult movie over time, beloved for its absurdity and unintentionally comedic tone.

Curiosità
Stephen King ha ottenuto personalmente il sì della band. Secondo varie interviste, ha contattato direttamente Angus Young e compagni perché voleva solo gli AC/DC. E loro hanno accettato, creando un legame raro tra cinema e rock.
"Who Made Who" non è un vero album da studio, ma una sorta di “colonna sonora ibrida”: contiene solo tre brani inediti (Who Made Who e due strumentali), mentre il resto sono hit preesistenti.
