Trama

 

Cole Trickle (Tom Cruise) è un giovane e talentuoso pilota di auto da corsa che viene reclutato per correre nella NASCAR, il campionato automobilistico americano. Nonostante il suo talento, Cole è impulsivo, inesperto nel mondo delle corse professionali e spesso in contrasto con i suoi compagni di squadra.

Viene affiancato dal veterano Harry Hogge (Robert Duvall), un ingegnere e capo tecnico che ha lasciato il mondo delle corse dopo una tragedia. Inizialmente diffidente, Harry riconosce il potenziale di Cole e lo aiuta a maturare come pilota.

Durante una gara, Cole subisce un grave incidente insieme al rivale Rowdy Burns, e viene ricoverato in ospedale, dove incontra la dottoressa Claire Lewicki (Nicole Kidman), con cui sviluppa una relazione romantica.

Mentre lotta per tornare in pista, Cole deve affrontare paure, rivalità e la pressione del suo ambizioso sponsor. Alla fine, supera le sue insicurezze, ricostruisce il rapporto con Harry e affronta una gara decisiva per dimostrare il suo valore.

Plot

Cole Trickle (Tom Cruise) is a young and talented race car driver who is recruited to compete in NASCAR, the American stock car racing championship. Despite his natural ability, Cole is impulsive, inexperienced in the world of professional racing, and often clashes with his teammates.

 

He is paired with veteran crew chief Harry Hogge (Robert Duvall), a seasoned engineer who had stepped away from racing after a tragic incident. Initially skeptical, Harry sees Cole’s potential and helps him grow as a driver.

 

During a race, Cole is involved in a serious crash along with his rival Rowdy Burns and ends up in the hospital, where he meets Dr. Claire Lewicki (Nicole Kidman). The two develop a romantic relationship.

 

As Cole fights to return to racing, he must face his fears, rivalries, and the pressure from his ambitious sponsor. In the end, he overcomes his insecurities, rebuilds his relationship with Harry, and takes part in a decisive race to prove his worth.
