AEROSMITH, SHOCK RETURN: DAVE GROHL ON DRUMS

After more than three years away from the biggest stages, Aerosmith returned to performing live with a special show that delivered emotion, classic hits and an impressive lineup of special guests. The undisputed star of the comeback was Dave Grohl, legendary Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer, who joined Steven Tyler and Joe Perry's band behind the drum kit, creating a truly unexpected collaboration.

The event took place on October 29, 2026, at the legendary Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, as part of California, Dream On: Aerosmith & Friends. For the occasion, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford and Tom Hamilton reunited on stage for a special six-song performance, marking the band's first proper live appearance since September 2023.

Dave Grohl joined Aerosmith on drums for most of the show, contributing to performances of some of the most iconic songs in their career, including Toys in the Attic, Back in the Saddle, Sweet Emotion and Dream On. It was a meeting of different generations of rock that sparked the audience's enthusiasm, turning what could have been a simple reunion into a truly significant moment.

But the surprises didn't end there. During The Train Kept A-Rollin', Johnny Depp took to the stage, picking up a guitar to join the band. The most emotional moment came towards the end of the show, when Joey Kramer, Aerosmith's longtime drummer and founding member, returned to his drum kit to join his bandmates for Walk This Way, sharing the drums with John Douglas. It was Kramer's first performance with the group since 2020.

The rock celebration continued on November 1, also at the Hollywood Bowl, with a second night featuring another impressive lineup of special guests. Dave Grohl was not in attendance this time, and John Douglas returned to the drums, while the grand finale featured Run-DMC joining Aerosmith for Walk This Way.

The comeback takes on even greater significance considering the lengthy hiatus caused by Steven Tyler's vocal cord injury, which forced the band to halt their farewell tour, Peace Out, in 2023, before subsequently announcing their retirement from touring in August 2024.

As for Aerosmith's future, nothing has been confirmed so far. However, during the second night, Steven Tyler hinted that the band's story may not have reached its final chapter just yet. One thing is certain: after more than half a century in the business, Aerosmith have once again proved they still have all the energy it takes to keep the heart of rock beating.
