Come nasce una vostra canzone?

Dopo oltre dieci anni di collaborazione, credo che le nostre canzoni nascano da sole, dalla sintonia e dalla sensibilità che ci accomuna, che non ha più bisogno di essere cercata o tradotta.
A volte nasce proprio dal bisogno di condividere un pensiero, un’emozione o semplicemente un messaggio che sentiamo di dover comunicare e che magari ci unisce da vissuti che pur se separati ci hanno segnato nel profondo allo stesso modo.

Come mantenete l’energia e la motivazione durante lunghi tour?

Abbiamo la fortuna di esserci trovati con una sintonia speciale, ci diamo forza l’un l’altro e siamo profondamente uniti da uno di stato di necessità: il bisogno di fare musica, di esprimerci e di condividere qualcosa che dentro di noi batte. Nonostante il lavoro, gli impegni familiari e personali, abbiamo il bisogno di trovare il tempo per suonare, nonostante la stanchezza, nonostante tutto.

Cosa possiamo aspettarci dal vostro prossimo album?

Siamo entusiasti del nuovo album in lavorazione, sonorità profonde e accattivanti, mai scontate.
Proponiamo testi in cui tutti si possono ritrovare;
Raccontiamo la Vita in chiave attuale, circondata dal digitale, vite spezzate, chi continua ad essere alla ricerca di sé stesso. Non dimentichiamo i volti dell'Amore, della rabbia ma anche
della rinascita.

Come vi rilassate dopo un concerto?

Il momento del rientro a casa tutti insieme nella stessa auto, è il momento in cui abbiamo dato il meglio di noi stessi e possiamo rilassarci, dando sfogo alla parte piu' leggera e divertente di
ognuno di noi... c'è anche chi dorme, pensando che gli altri non se ne accorgano.... ma con un bel sorriso stampato!

Come descrivereste il vostro stile musicale?

In una parola spontaneo e d’istinto.

LUZA - Dritto al cuore

Se una cosa ho capito di Davide Nomicisio, è che il suo approccio e altrettanto bucolico che devastante...

Mi spiego meglio...
Provate ad ascoltare l'intro di Dritto al cuore...

Parte come un classico brano Pop Rock italiano, che ti fa pensare ok, ma il Rock dove sta?!...

E qui c'è l' approccio bucolico, in senso di rilassato, come si faceva e si è sempre fatto nella musica e si dovrebbe fare ancora, perché la canzone va ascoltata, non va skippata dopo i primi 30 secondi, cosa che purtroppo ormai fanno tutti...

Ma perché sto dicendo questo...

Perché dopo nemmeno 45 secondi la canzone ha il suo primo cambio di tempo e inizia a salire di dinamica: il groove diventa Hard Blues di quelli alla "Roadhouse Blues" dei "The Doors" per capirci, le chitarre iniziano a farsi elettriche seppur con un approccio ancora Rock Wave (Mauna Loa rules) a un minuto e diciassette inizia il bello...

Le chitarre ritmiche semi dstorte sbattono con un controtempo sulla drum, un qualcosa che forse non mi era mai capitato di sentire, ed è spiazzante...

Per un attimo penso, non si dovrebbe fare, ma il groove continua e inizia a prendermi...

Gli accordi si fanno oscuri, stile Hard Rock da stadio, in netto contrasto sull'intro (che se avevate skippato nei 30 secondi iniziali vi sareste persi...)

A un minuto è 32 la potenza Hard Rock finalmente esplode, Rock Americano puro, in stile Nomicisio (e qui parte la parte devastante, quella che ti emoziona veramente...) ma non è finita...

A due minuti e 05 il bridge, tutto cambia...

Un mood Wave 80 denso di tastiere morbide asseconda le parole e la dolcissima e splendida voce di Luza (lead vocal dei Mauna Loa) che la fa da padrona dall' inizio alla fine, una delle voci femminili italiane più belle di sempre...

Il tutto dura una manciata di secondi, e si riparte alla grande...

Un assolo dal mood Dark, brividi e lacrime, sostenuto da un classico groove Rock 4/4, vi trasporta in atmosfere da grandi live...
Cambiano gli accordi, donandomi un senso di nostalgia per qualcosa di perduto che non so cosa sia...

Qui proprio dove non c'è il testo, si capisce il senso delle parole di "Dritto al cuore"...

Tre minuti e 07... Inizia il finale...
Si torna all' Hard Rock...
Scendono le lacrime...

I colori vocali si fanno accesi, la voce di Luza si presenta in tutta la sua meraviglia, le chitarre ritmiche e soliste si intrecciano fino a penetrarti il cuore, un qualcosa a cui Davide ci ha abituato...

Se avete skippato i primi versi di questa recensione, non saprete mai cosa si prova ad ascoltare un grande brano...

LuZa, nome d'arte di Luana Zappalà, è nata a Monza nel 1982. Si avvicina alla musica da bambina, tra i dischi dei fratelli maggiori e le domeniche con i cugini musicisti, mentre a cinque anni inizia a
praticare danza classica. Durante le superiori forma la sua prima rock band, negli anni in cui U2, Oasis, Alanis Morissette, Nirvana, Skunk Anansie e soprattutto The Cranberries definiscono il suono di un'epoca: dalle cover dei grandi successi il gruppo passa presto a rielaborarle, spinto dal desiderio di scrivere qualcosa di proprio.
Dopo diverse formazioni, nel 2017 incontra Simone Molena e Davide Nomicisio e fonda con loro i Mauna Loa, oggi completati da Andrea Sarti e Giorgio Bisson. Con la band ha pubblicato due album di inediti, Mauna Loa (2021) e Scarabocchi (2024). «Dritto al cuore» è il suo secondo singolo solista.

Secondo capitolo del percorso solista della cantautrice monzese, il brano è scritto a quattro mani con Davide Nomicisio e mette a fuoco il peso di ciò che resta non detto.
Il 4 Settembre esce su tutte le piattaforme digitali «Dritto al cuore», il nuovo singolo di LuZa, pubblicato da Artisti Online. È il secondo brano del percorso solista dell'artista - nome d'arte di Luana Zappalà, voce dei Mauna Loa - ed è firmato a quattro mani insieme a Davide Nomicisio, con cui condivide da anni il lavoro all'interno della band.
La collaborazione tra i due non nasce con questo singolo: si è consolidata dal 2017, quando insieme a Simone Molena hanno fondato i Mauna Loa, e si fonda su un'intesa artistica che ha già prodotto due album di inediti. «Dritto al cuore» ne porta il segno anche fuori dal contesto della band, in una scrittura che alterna la voce di chi racconta a quella di chi osserva.
Il pezzo si muove su atmosfere rock, in continuità con le produzioni precedenti: chitarre in primo piano, una dinamica che cresce per blocchi e una voce che resta al centro senza mai cercare l'effetto.
Una scelta coerente con la formazione dell'artista, cresciuta negli anni in cui U2, Nirvana, Skunk Anansie e soprattutto The Cranberries definivano il suono di un'epoca.
L'apertura è una constatazione priva di enfasi -cadere è del tutto normale, restare a galla l'unica cosa da fare , e da lì il brano procede senza cercare consolazioni. Al centro del testo c'è ciò che ci si
porta dentro senza mai nominarlo: un'esperienza, una parola non detta, il rimpianto per qualcosa che non è avvenuto. Non un ricordo che si affievolisce, piuttosto un peso che resta e che torna a farsi
sentire nei momenti di maggiore fragilità. «Tutti abbiamo un posto freddo e buio», spiega LuZa, «che non mostriamo mai, tenendolo ben nascosto agli occhi della gente». È da lì che nasce il ritornello, costruito su una domanda diretta - «Sai dirmi dov'è il tuo posto freddo e buio» - che il brano lascia deliberatamente aperta.
La scrittura procede per immagini brevi e giustapposte: «anime macchiate», «gesti folli e silenzi», «cicatrici e poesie». Nessuna narrazione lineare, nessuna morale finale. Il bridge allarga lo sguardo
dal privato al collettivo, da chi osserva dall'alto senza aver mai imparato a vivere, la stessa storia già passata, gli stessi errori e riporta il pezzo alla constatazione dell'inizio.

How does one of your songs come to life?

After more than ten years of working together, I believe our songs are born on their own, from the harmony and sensitivity we share, something that no longer needs to be searched for or translated. Sometimes a song comes from the need to share a thought, an emotion, or simply a message we feel compelled to express ,  something that connects us through experiences that, even if lived separately, have marked us just as deeply.

How do you keep your energy and motivation during long tours?

We’re lucky to have found a special kind of harmony. We lift each other up, deeply united by a shared necessity: the need to make music, to express ourselves, to share something that beats inside us. Despite work, family, and personal commitments, we need to find time to play, despite the fatigue, despite everything.

What can we expect from your next album?

We’re excited about the new album we’re working on ,  deep, captivating sounds, never predictable. We’re bringing lyrics in which everyone can find themselves. We tell Life as it is today: surrounded by digital noise, broken lives, people still searching for themselves. And we don’t forget the faces of Love, anger, and rebirth.

How do you unwind after a concert?

The moment we all drive back home together in the same car is when we’ve given our very best and can finally relax, letting the lighter, funnier side of each of us come out… There’s even someone who falls asleep, thinking no one notices,  but with a big smile on their face.

How would you describe your musical style?

In one word: spontaneous and instinctive.

LUZA – Straight to the Heart

If there’s one thing I’ve understood about Davide Nomicisio, it’s that his approach is as bucolic as it is devastating.

Let me explain… Try listening to the intro of Straight to the Heart.

It starts like a classic Italian Pop Rock track, the kind that makes you think: “Okay… but where’s the Rock?!”

And here comes the bucolic part—in the sense of relaxed, the way music has always been made and should still be made. Because a song should be listened to, not skipped after the first 30 seconds, which unfortunately is what everyone does now.

But why am I saying this?

Because after not even 45 seconds, the song has its first tempo change and the dynamics start rising: the groove becomes Hard Blues, the kind of “Roadhouse Blues” by The Doors, to be clear. The guitars start turning electric, though still with that Rock Wave approach (Mauna Loa rules). And at one minute and seventeen seconds, the good part begins.

The semi‑distorted rhythm guitars hit a counter‑beat against the drums—something I don’t think I’ve ever heard before, and it’s disorienting.

For a moment I think, “You shouldn’t do that,” but the groove keeps going and starts pulling me in.

The chords turn darker, stadium‑style Hard Rock, in sharp contrast with the intro (which, if you skipped those first 30 seconds, you would have missed entirely).

At one minute and thirty‑two seconds, the Hard Rock power finally explodes—pure American Rock, Nomicisio‑style (and here comes the devastating part, the one that truly moves you)… but it’s not over.

At two minutes and five seconds, the bridge arrives—everything changes.

A dense 80s Wave mood, full of soft keyboards, supports the words and the sweet, stunning voice of Luza (lead vocalist of Mauna Loa), who dominates from beginning to end. One of the most beautiful female voices in Italy.

It lasts only a handful of seconds, and then it kicks back in.

A solo with a dark mood—chills and tears—carried by a classic 4/4 Rock groove, transporting you into the atmosphere of a big live show. The chords shift, giving me a sense of nostalgia for something lost, something I don’t even know.

Right here, where there are no lyrics, you understand the meaning of the words in Straight to the Heart.

Three minutes and seven seconds… the finale begins. We return to Hard Rock. The tears fall.

The vocal colors turn bright, Luza’s voice reveals all its magnificence, and the rhythm and lead guitars intertwine until they pierce your heart—something Davide has accustomed us to.

If you skipped the first lines of this review, you’ll never know what it feels like to listen to a great song. You’ll never understand the value of discovery—waiting for something that is truly worth living.

LuZa, stage name of Luana Zappalà, was born in Monza in 1982. She approached music as a child, growing up among her older siblings’ records and Sunday afternoons spent with her musician cousins, while at the age of five she began studying classical dance. During high school she formed her first rock band, in the years when U2, Oasis, Alanis Morissette, Nirvana, Skunk Anansie and especially The Cranberries were shaping the sound of an era. From covering major hits, the group soon moved on to reworking them, driven by the desire to create something of their own.

After several line‑ups, in 2017 she met Simone Molena and Davide Nomicisio and founded Mauna Loa with them, later completed by Andrea Sarti and Giorgio Bisson. With the band she has released two albums of original music, Mauna Loa (2021) and Scarabocchi (2024). “Dritto al cuore” is her second solo single.

It sits within us like a weight; even when we’re not thinking about it, it’s there, and inevitably resurfaces, especially in our most fragile moments. The second chapter in the Monza‑born singer‑songwriter’s solo journey, the track is co‑written with Davide Nomicisio and shines a light on the weight of what remains unspoken.

On September 4, Dritto al cuore will be released on all digital platforms, the new single by LuZa, published by Artisti Online. It is the second track in the artist’s solo project — the stage name of Luana Zappalà, vocalist of Mauna Loa — and is co‑written with Davide Nomicisio, with whom she has shared years of work within the band.

Their collaboration didn’t begin with this single: it has been solid since 2017, when together with Simone Molena they founded Mauna Loa, built on an artistic chemistry that has already produced two albums of original music. Dritto al cuore carries that imprint even outside the band’s context, through a writing style that alternates the voice of the narrator with that of the observer.

The track moves through rock atmospheres, in continuity with her previous work: guitars in the foreground, a dynamic that grows in blocks, and a voice that stays centered without ever chasing the effect. A coherent choice for an artist shaped during the years when U2, Nirvana, Skunk Anansie and especially The Cranberries defined the sound of an era.

The opening line is a clear, understated statement — falling is completely normal, staying afloat is the only thing to do — and from there the song moves forward without seeking consolation. At the heart of the lyrics lies what we carry inside without ever naming it: an experience, an unspoken word, the regret for something that never happened. Not a fading memory, but a weight that remains and resurfaces in moments of greater fragility. “We all have a cold, dark place,” LuZa explains, “that we never show, keeping it well hidden from the eyes of others.” From that place comes the chorus, built around a direct question — “Can you tell me where your cold and dark place is?” — which the song deliberately leaves unanswered.

The writing unfolds through short, juxtaposed images: “stained souls,” “wild gestures and silences,” “scars and poetry.” No linear narrative, no final moral. The bridge widens the perspective from the personal to the collective, to those who watch from above without ever learning how to live — the same story repeated, the same mistakes — bringing the track back to the opening statement.
