MEI 2026, ROCK TAKES CENTER STAGE FOR A GRAND FINALE IN FAENZA
The 2026 edition of the MEI – Meeting delle Etichette Indipendenti comes to a close today, Sunday, October 4, in Faenza. Celebrating its 30th anniversary under the banner “30 e Lode!”, the festival has once again transformed the Romagna city into a major gathering point for Italy’s independent music scene, bringing together concerts, conferences, awards and emerging talent.
The grand finale takes place in Piazza del Popolo, where one of the most anticipated moments will be the presentation of the MEI 30 e Lode! Award to Morgan, who also took part in the festival’s very first edition back in 1995. The event will also celebrate the career of The Gang, the legendary Italian folk rock band, who will perform alongside the Orchestrona della Scuola di Musica Popolare di Forlimpopoli.
The final day’s lineup also features Lennon Kelly, Chiara Raggi, Dirlinger, Beatrice Campisi, Enne and Lui Gumi, together with many other artists from the independent scene. The program once again reflects the MEI’s mission of bringing established names and new generations together, while offering visibility to lesser-known projects and emerging acts from across Italy.
Special attention will also be given to the connection between music, culture and social commitment. Among the closing events is “Il Mio Cantico Libero”, a project dedicated to peace, fraternity and respect for nature, created as part of the commemorations marking the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi.
The festival’s closing moments will be entrusted to the Coro Ologramma, winner of Pythika, which will join other choirs in performing the Canticle of the Creatures under the direction of Maestro Pier Giacomo Zauli. The performance will culminate in a large-scale choral flash mob, turning the festival’s farewell into a collective celebration of music and inclusion.
Once again, the MEI confirms its identity as an event dedicated not only to live performances but to the entire ecosystem of independent music. Professional meetings, industry discussions, awards and cultural initiatives have accompanied the concert schedule throughout the festival, creating opportunities for dialogue between artists, industry professionals, journalists and audiences.
With the Notte Bianca del MEI and the After MEI, the festival will bid farewell to Faenza after four intense days of activity. The special “30 e Lode!” edition closes in the spirit of continuity: celebrating the history of Italian independent music, honoring those who helped shape its growth and, at the same time, providing a showcase for the artists who are building its future.
Thirty years on, the MEI remains a cornerstone event for Italy’s independent music scene, capable of bringing together different generations and artistic languages. A journey rooted in history, but firmly focused on the music of tomorrow, reaffirming Faenza’s role as one of the symbolic homes of Italian musical creativity.
