Due nomi fondamentali della scena punk rock di Chicago si ritrovano insieme in un progetto che celebra una storia musicale condivisa lunga oltre vent'anni. Rise Against e Alkaline Trio hanno pubblicato ieri, 17 settembre 2026, un nuovo split single, nel quale le due band si scambiano idealmente i ruoli reinterpretando un brano dell'altra.
I Rise Against hanno scelto “Private Eye”, uno dei brani più conosciuti degli Alkaline Trio, mentre gli Alkaline Trio hanno realizzato una propria versione di “Re-Education (Through Labor)”, singolo dei Rise Against tratto dall'album Appeal to Reason del 2008. Le due tracce sono disponibili in digitale, mentre è stata annunciata anche un'edizione limitata in vinile 7 pollici, disponibile per il pre-order.
La particolarità del progetto va però oltre il semplice scambio di cover. Le due band condividono infatti radici profonde nella scena punk di Chicago e una conoscenza che risale agli anni degli esordi, quando entrambe gravitavano attorno a piccoli locali e concerti underground, tra cui il celebre Fireside Bowl.
Per Matt Skiba, frontman degli Alkaline Trio, questa collaborazione rappresenta una sorta di ritorno alle origini: un modo per ritrovare lo spirito con cui le due band si sono conosciute e hanno iniziato a costruire il proprio percorso musicale. Anche Tim McIlrath dei Rise Against ha sottolineato quanto sia profondo il legame tra i due gruppi, nato ancora prima della formazione delle rispettive band e cresciuto all'interno della stessa scena musicale.
La scelta dei due brani rende inoltre lo split particolarmente interessante: non si tratta semplicemente di riproporre due canzoni celebri, ma di reinterpretare materiale proveniente dal repertorio dell'altra band, dando alle composizioni una nuova identità attraverso stili, arrangiamenti e sensibilità differenti.
Il risultato diventa così un vero e proprio dialogo musicale tra due realtà che, pur avendo sviluppato percorsi distinti, hanno condiviso ambienti, influenze e una parte importante della storia del punk rock americano. Un incontro che mette in evidenza quanto siano ancora forti i legami costruiti nella scena underground.
La pubblicazione arriva inoltre a pochi giorni dall'inizio del tour co-headliner negli Stati Uniti, che vedrà Rise Against e Alkaline Trio condividere il palco a partire dal 22 settembre a Dallas, con successive tappe in città come New York, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City e San Francisco. Il tour si concluderà il 23 ottobre a Irvine, in California.
Più che una semplice raccolta di cover, questo split single mette quindi al centro l'amicizia, le influenze reciproche e le radici comuni di due band che hanno contribuito a definire il punk rock americano degli ultimi decenni. Un incontro tra passato e presente che arriva proprio mentre Rise Against e Alkaline Trio si preparano a tornare a condividere il palco.

RISE AGAINST AND ALKALINE TRIO: THE NEW SPLIT SINGLE IS OUT NOW
Two essential names of Chicago’s punk‑rock scene come together for a project that celebrates a shared musical history spanning more than twenty years. Rise Against and Alkaline Trio released yesterday, 17 September 2026, a new split single in which the two bands symbolically swap roles by reinterpreting one another’s songs.
Rise Against chose “Private Eye”, one of Alkaline Trio’s most iconic tracks, while Alkaline Trio recorded their own version of “Re‑Education (Through Labor)”, the Rise Against single taken from the 2008 album Appeal to Reason. Both songs are available digitally, and a limited 7‑inch vinyl edition has also been announced and is now open for pre‑order.

The release also arrives just days before the start of the U.S. co‑headlining tour, which will see Rise Against and Alkaline Trio share the stage beginning 22 September in Dallas, followed by stops in cities such as New York, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and San Francisco. The tour will conclude on 23 October in Irvine, California.
More than a simple collection of covers, this split single puts the spotlight on friendship, mutual influence and the shared roots of two bands that helped define American punk rock over the past decades. A bridge between past and present arriving just as Rise Against and Alkaline Trio prepare to return to the stage together.
