A quarant'anni da uno degli eventi più significativi della loro carriera, i Queen riportano sul grande schermo uno dei concerti più iconici della storia del rock. Queen Budapest, il film che documenta lo straordinario live del 27 luglio 1986 al Népstadion di Budapest, arriverà nelle sale cinematografiche di tutto il mondo dal 7 ottobre 2026, mentre in Italia sarà proiettato dal 7 all'11 ottobre come evento speciale distribuito da Nexo Studios.
Il concerto ungherese rappresenta una pagina fondamentale nella storia della band. Inserito nel celebre Magic Tour, fu il primo grande spettacolo di una rock band occidentale organizzato in uno stadio oltre la Cortina di Ferro e attirò circa 80.000 spettatori, diventando un simbolo di apertura culturale in un periodo ancora segnato dalle divisioni politiche dell'Europa. Per i Queen fu anche l'ultima esibizione dal vivo ripresa integralmente su pellicola con Freddie Mercury, un documento storico che immortala la band al culmine della propria maturità artistica.
Per celebrare il quarantesimo anniversario dell'evento, il film è stato sottoposto a un accurato restauro in 4K, realizzato partendo dalle pellicole originali in 35 mm. Anche il comparto sonoro è stato completamente rielaborato grazie a un nuovo mix ottenuto dalle registrazioni multitraccia originali, con l'obiettivo di offrire l'esperienza audiovisiva più fedele e coinvolgente mai realizzata di questo storico concerto. Il lavoro di restauro è stato curato da Park Road Post Production, lo studio neozelandese fondato da Peter Jackson, già protagonista del recupero di numerosi importanti archivi cinematografici e musicali.
La scaletta include alcuni dei brani più celebri del repertorio della band, tra cui "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Radio Ga Ga", "I Want To Break Free", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" e "We Are The Champions". Tra i momenti più emozionanti figura anche l'interpretazione di "Tavaszi Szél Vizet Áraszt", tradizionale canzone popolare ungherese eseguita da Freddie Mercury, un gesto che contribuì a creare un legame speciale con il pubblico presente quella sera.
Brian May ha definito questa nuova edizione «l'esperienza più vicina possibile a vedere i Queen nel pieno della loro gloria», sottolineando come la qualità delle immagini restaurate e del nuovo audio permetterà agli spettatori di immergersi completamente nell'atmosfera del concerto. Anche Roger Taylor ha ricordato quel tour come uno dei momenti più alti della carriera della band, inconsapevoli che sarebbe stato l'ultimo con Freddie Mercury.
Dopo l'uscita nelle sale, il 30 ottobre 2026 Queen Budapest sarà pubblicato anche nei formati Blu-ray, DVD, CD, vinile e digitale, offrendo ai fan la possibilità di rivivere uno dei live più importanti della storia del rock direttamente a casa.

Queen: The Historic Budapest Concert Film Is Coming to Cinemas
Forty years after one of the most significant events of their career, Queen are bringing back to the big screen one of the most iconic concerts in rock history. Queen Budapest, the film documenting the extraordinary live performance held on 27 July 1986 at Budapest’s Népstadion, will arrive in cinemas worldwide starting 7 October 2026, while in Italy it will screen from 7 to 11 October as a special event distributed by Nexo Studios.
The Hungarian concert represents a pivotal chapter in the band’s history. Part of the celebrated Magic Tour, it was the first major stadium show by a Western rock band to take place beyond the Iron Curtain, drawing around 80,000 spectators and becoming a symbol of cultural openness during a period still marked by Europe’s political divisions. For Queen, it was also the last fully filmed live performance featuring Freddie Mercury, a historic document capturing the band at the height of their artistic maturity.
To celebrate the concert’s 40th anniversary, the film has undergone an extensive 4K restoration, created from the original 35 mm reels. The audio has also been completely reworked through a new mix sourced from the original multitrack recordings, with the aim of delivering the most faithful and immersive audiovisual experience ever produced for this legendary show. The restoration was overseen by Park Road Post Production, the New Zealand studio founded by Peter Jackson, already known for its work on major cinematic and musical archival projects.
The setlist includes some of the band’s most iconic songs, such as “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Radio Ga Ga”, “I Want To Break Free”, “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” and “We Are The Champions”. Among the most emotional moments is the performance of “Tavaszi Szél Vizet Áraszt”, a traditional Hungarian folk song sung by Freddie Mercury, a gesture that helped forge a special bond with the audience that night.
Brian May has described this new edition as “the closest possible experience to seeing Queen in all their glory”, highlighting how the restored visuals and new audio will allow viewers to fully immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the concert. Roger Taylor also recalled that tour as one of the band’s highest moments, unaware that it would be their last with Freddie Mercury.
Following its theatrical release, Queen Budapest will be available from 30 October 2026 in Blu‑ray, DVD, CD, vinyl and digital formats, giving fans the chance to relive one of the most important live performances in rock history directly at home.
