VASCO ROSSI, AWARDED AN HONORARY DOCTORATE: “SONGS GIVE VOICE TO DISCOMFORT”

A new and significant honor has been added to Vasco Rossi’s long career. The rock icon from Zocca has been awarded an honorary doctorate in Politics and Communication by the University of Salerno, a recognition that highlights the role of his music and communication style in shaping the relationship with audiences and contemporary culture.

The ceremony took place on October 7 as part of an event dedicated to the relationship between music, communication and society. Vasco took part in the occasion with a lectio magistralis in which he reflected on various aspects of his artistic journey, focusing on the value of songs as a means of expressing emotions, unease and contradictions.

One of the key themes of his speech was discomfort and inner turmoil, subjects that have long been present in his work. For Vasco, a song is not merely entertainment; it can also become a space in which people recognize themselves and find words to express feelings that are often difficult to describe. From this perspective, music can give a voice to those experiencing uncertainty, unease or personal struggles.

The recognition comes after more than forty years of career, during which Vasco Rossi has built an especially direct connection with several generations of listeners. From the provocative spirit of the late 1970s and 1980s to his massive stadium concerts, his artistic language has consistently been defined by authenticity, freedom of expression and the ability to speak openly to his audience.

The honorary doctorate therefore represents recognition that goes beyond commercial success. It is a way of acknowledging the cultural impact of an artist who, through his songs and his style of communication, has transformed personal experiences and shared emotions into a language that is instantly recognizable.

For Vasco Rossi, once again, music confirms itself as a tool for telling stories about reality, human fragility and emotions. And the ability of songs to give voice to feelings of unease remains one of the most significant elements of his artistic journey.
