ELTON JOHN, TORNA “ROCK OF THE WESTIES” CON DUE INEDITI PIANO E VOCE

Tra i brani più conosciuti figurano “Island Girl”, “Grow Some Funk of Your Own”, “Dan Dare (Pilot of the Future)” e “Street Kids”.

ELTON JOHN, “ROCK OF THE WESTIES” RETURNS WITH TWO PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED PIANO-AND-VOCAL TRACKS

Fifty years after its original release, Elton John’s “Rock of the Westies” returns with a special 50th Anniversary Edition, due out on November 20, 2026. The new edition celebrates one of the most energetic and rock-oriented albums from the extraordinary creative period the British artist experienced in the 1970s.

Originally released in October 1975, “Rock of the Westies” is Elton John’s tenth studio album. Recorded at Caribou Ranch in Colorado and produced by longtime collaborator Gus Dudgeon, the album marked a particularly important moment in the artist’s career, thanks to a more direct, powerful and rock-focused sound, featuring hard-hitting drums, funky bass lines, guitars, synthesizers and percussion.

The album was an immediate success: it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, where it remained for three consecutive weeks, becoming Elton John’s sixth consecutive album to reach the top of the US chart. Among its best-known tracks are “Island Girl,” “Grow Some Funk of Your Own,” “Dan Dare (Pilot of the Future)” and “Street Kids.”

The new anniversary edition adds a particularly intriguing element for fans: a second disc entirely devoted to the Piano & Vocal versions recorded during the original sessions. These more stripped-down performances present the songs through Elton’s voice and piano alone, without the band arrangements. It is an opportunity to hear the compositions and performances from a completely different perspective.

The first track to be released from these recordings is “Street Kids – Piano / Vocal Version,” already available as a preview of the reissue. The track offers a chance to rediscover the song in its most intimate form, bringing Elton John’s piano work to the forefront. The artist has said that he was particularly struck by the quality of the recordings when he listened back to them 50 years later.

The 50th Anniversary Edition will be available in several formats, including 2-CD, 2-LP, 1-LP and digital editions. The expanded editions will feature the original album alongside nine Piano & Vocal versions drawn from the 1975 sessions.

Fifty years on, “Rock of the Westies” once again confirms its importance in Elton John’s artistic journey: an album created at the height of his extraordinary international rise, characterized by a rougher, freer and decidedly more rock-driven approach. The new reissue now offers listeners the opportunity to rediscover its essence, bringing Elton John’s voice, piano and songs back to the forefront.
