A oltre cinquant’anni da quelle storiche esibizioni, la musica dei The Doors torna a riaccendere l’atmosfera selvaggia e imprevedibile dei loro concerti del 1970. Il 23 ottobre arriverà “Unbound and Dangerous”, un nuovo doppio album dal vivo che raccoglie registrazioni realizzate durante il leggendario Roadhouse Blues Tour, la tournée che seguì la pubblicazione di Morrison Hotel.
Il progetto è stato curato dai membri superstiti della formazione originale, Robby Krieger e John Densmore, insieme allo storico ingegnere del suono e mixer della band, Bruce Botnick. L’album riporta così in primo piano una delle formazioni più iconiche e irripetibili della storia del rock: Jim Morrison alla voce, Ray Manzarek alle tastiere, Robby Krieger alla chitarra e John Densmore alla batteria.
Il materiale proviene principalmente da concerti tenuti negli Stati Uniti, con registrazioni effettuate tra New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh e Detroit. A completare la raccolta c’è anche una versione di “Soul Kitchen” proveniente da un’esibizione del 1969 all’Aquarius Theatre di Hollywood.
La scaletta restituisce tutta la potenza della dimensione live dei Doors, alternando blues, psichedelia e rock attraverso brani fondamentali come “Break On Through (To The Other Side)”, “When The Music’s Over”, “Roadhouse Blues”, “Five To One”, “Light My Fire”, “Soul Kitchen” e “The End”. Il disco comprende complessivamente 16 tracce, includendo un’introduzione e il saluto finale.
Non è soltanto un’operazione nostalgica. Il valore di “Unbound and Dangerous” sta soprattutto nella possibilità di ascoltare una band nel pieno della propria evoluzione artistica, in un momento particolarmente intenso della sua storia. Nel 1970 i Doors erano già una delle realtà più importanti del rock americano, ma il loro linguaggio dal vivo conservava ancora quella componente imprevedibile e pericolosa che aveva contribuito a costruirne il mito.
A rendere ancora più interessante il progetto è il lavoro sul suono: Botnick ha supervisionato nuovi mix Dolby Atmos e stereo ad alta risoluzione, permettendo di riportare queste performance storiche in una veste sonora aggiornata. L’album sarà disponibile in formato digitale, CD, doppio LP in vinile rosso traslucido e Blu-ray.
“Unbound and Dangerous” arriva dunque come una nuova occasione per riscoprire i Doors nella loro dimensione più autentica: quella del palco, dove la voce di Jim Morrison, le tastiere di Ray Manzarek, la chitarra di Robby Krieger e la batteria di John Densmore si incontravano in un equilibrio unico tra improvvisazione, blues, psichedelia e rock.

The Doors, a Lost Live Treasure Resurfaces: Here Comes Unbound and Dangerous
A little over fifty years after those historic performances, the music of The Doors once again rekindles the wild, unpredictable atmosphere of their 1970 concerts. On October 23, Unbound and Dangerous will arrive — a new double live album featuring recordings captured during the legendary Roadhouse Blues Tour, the run of shows that followed the release of Morrison Hotel.
The project was curated by the surviving members of the original lineup, Robby Krieger and John Densmore, together with the band’s longtime engineer and mixer, Bruce Botnick. The album brings back to the forefront one of the most iconic and unrepeatable formations in rock history: Jim Morrison on vocals, Ray Manzarek on keyboards, Robby Krieger on guitar, and John Densmore on drums.
The material comes primarily from concerts held across the United States, with recordings from New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Detroit. Completing the collection is a version of “Soul Kitchen” taken from a 1969 performance at the Aquarius Theatre in Hollywood.
The tracklist restores the full power of the Doors’ live dimension, shifting between blues, psychedelia, and rock through essential songs such as “Break On Through (To The Other Side),” “When The Music’s Over,” “Roadhouse Blues,” “Five To One,” “Light My Fire,” “Soul Kitchen,” and “The End.” The album includes a total of 16 tracks, featuring an introduction and a closing farewell.
This is far more than a nostalgic operation.
