Gli Europe tornano con un nuovo capitolo della loro storia musicale e lo fanno con “Scandinavian Eyes”, il nuovo singolo pubblicato il 1° settembre 2026, terzo brano estratto dal prossimo album in studio “Come This Madness”, atteso il 25 settembre 2026 per Silver Lining Music.
Il nuovo brano mette in evidenza una delle caratteristiche che hanno accompagnato gli Europe nel corso della loro lunga carriera: la capacità di unire l’impatto dell’hard rock a melodie ampie e fortemente riconoscibili. “Scandinavian Eyes” nasce da un riff incalzante, sostenuto da un ritornello di grande apertura, linee vocali potenti e arrangiamenti dal respiro orchestrale. Il risultato è un pezzo costruito per avere una forte dimensione dal vivo, senza rinunciare alla cura della produzione.
A raccontare il significato e l’importanza del brano è Joey Tempest, voce e membro fondatore della band, che lo considera uno dei suoi pezzi preferiti degli Europe degli ultimi anni. Il testo affronta il tema del confine tra ciò che è giusto e ciò che lo è meno, una riflessione sulla difficoltà di distinguere le proprie scelte e le proprie responsabilità.
“Scandinavian Eyes” è accompagnata anche da un performance video diretto da Patric Ullaeus, regista che ha già collaborato con la band. Il video punta soprattutto sull'energia della formazione e sulla sua dimensione live, lasciando che siano la musica, l'esecuzione e la presenza scenica degli Europe a occupare il centro della scena.
Il singolo rappresenta un ulteriore tassello di “Come This Madness”, il dodicesimo album in studio degli Europe e il primo lavoro di inediti della band dopo Walk the Earth del 2017. Il disco è stato registrato agli RMV Studio di Stoccolma, prodotto da Tom Dalgety e mixato da Mike Fraser, due nomi di primo piano della produzione rock internazionale. Al progetto partecipano inoltre Tobias Forge dei Ghost e Mikael Åkerfeldt degli Opeth, presenti ai cori.
La formazione attuale vede Joey Tempest alla voce, John Norum alla chitarra, John Levén al basso, Mic Michaeli alle tastiere e Ian Haugland alla batteria. È la stessa formazione che ha contribuito a costruire la seconda fase della carriera degli Europe, quella iniziata dopo la reunion del 2003 e caratterizzata da un approccio più maturo e profondamente radicato nell'hard rock.
Dopo quasi quattro decenni di carriera, gli Europe continuano così a guardare avanti senza rinnegare le proprie radici. La band svedese, esplosa a livello mondiale negli anni Ottanta con “The Final Countdown”, “Rock the Night” e “Carrie”, si prepara ora a celebrare il 40° anniversario di The Final Countdown con un importante tour europeo, mentre “Scandinavian Eyes” offre un'ulteriore anticipazione di quello che sarà il nuovo capitolo discografico.

EUROPE, “SCANDINAVIAN EYES” IS THE NEW SINGLE AHEAD OF COME THIS MADNESS
The Europe return with a new chapter in their musical journey, and they do so with “Scandinavian Eyes”, the new single released on September 1, 2026 — the third track taken from their upcoming studio album “Come This Madness”, due out on September 25, 2026 via Silver Lining Music.
The new song highlights one of the defining traits that has accompanied Europe throughout their long career: the ability to blend hard‑rock impact with wide, unmistakable melodies. “Scandinavian Eyes” is built around a driving riff, supported by a soaring chorus, powerful vocal lines and arrangements with an orchestral breadth. The result is a track crafted for a strong live dimension, without sacrificing production detail.
Joey Tempest — vocalist and founding member of the band — explains the meaning and importance of the song, calling it one of his favorite Europe tracks of recent years. The lyrics explore the thin line between what is right and what is not, reflecting on the difficulty of distinguishing one’s choices and responsibilities.
“Scandinavian Eyes” is also accompanied by a performance video directed by Patric Ullaeus, a filmmaker who has previously collaborated with the band. The video focuses on the group’s energy and live presence, letting the music, execution and stage charisma of Europe take center stage.
The single adds another piece to “Come This Madness”, Europe’s twelfth studio album and their first collection of new material since Walk the Earth (2017). The record was tracked at RMV Studio in Stockholm, produced by Tom Dalgety and mixed by Mike Fraser, two leading names in international rock production. The project also features Tobias Forge of Ghost and Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth on backing vocals.
The current lineup features Joey Tempest on vocals, John Norum on guitar, John Levén on bass, Mic Michaeli on keyboards and Ian Haugland on drums — the same formation that has shaped the band’s second era, the one that began after their 2003 reunion and has since embraced a more mature, hard‑rock‑rooted approach.
