La musica divenne presto il centro della sua vita e il pianoforte uno degli strumenti fondamentali del suo percorso creativo. Nel corso della sua carriera ha sviluppato uno stile personale e immediatamente riconoscibile, capace di combinare pop, soft rock e songwriting britannico attraverso melodie eleganti, arrangiamenti essenziali e testi caratterizzati da ironia, sensibilità e attenzione per la vita quotidiana.
Il grande successo arrivò all’inizio degli anni Settanta. Nel 1970, “Nothing Rhymed” lo portò all’attenzione del pubblico britannico e internazionale, aprendo la strada a una stagione di straordinari risultati commerciali. Alla produzione torna Andy Wright, già al fianco di O’Sullivan per “Driven”, pubblicato nel 2022, e “Songbook”, del 2024.
Tra i momenti più interessanti del nuovo disco ci sarà anche “Is That You?”, un duetto realizzato con Andrea Corr, voce e componente dei The Corrs. La tracklist comprende inoltre brani come “It’s Me, I Suppose”, “Go The Way I Came”, “I Must Be Going”, “Don’t Shout”, “She Never Ceases To Amaze Me”, “Our Love Is Gonna Grow”, “Wait”, “Minus Is A Plus With You”, “No Place Like Home” e “See Us Gone”.

Gilbert O’Sullivan is back with a new chapter in his long and prestigious career. The Irish singer‑songwriter has announced “On The Record”, his 21st studio album, set for release on 6 November 2026 via BMG. The new project will be preceded by the single “Growing Old Disgracefully”, the first preview of a collection that confirms the extraordinary artistic longevity of one of the most original and refined songwriters on the international scene.
Born in Waterford, Ireland, on 1 December 1946, Gilbert O’Sullivan — born Raymond O’Sullivan — moved to England with his family as a child. Music soon became the centre of his life, and the piano one of the fundamental instruments of his creative journey. Over the course of his career, he developed a personal and instantly recognisable style, capable of blending pop, soft rock and British songwriting through elegant melodies, essential arrangements and lyrics marked by irony, sensitivity and attention to everyday life.
His breakthrough came in the early 1970s. In 1970, “Nothing Rhymed” brought him to the attention of both the British and international public, paving the way for a season of extraordinary commercial success. In 1972 came what would become his most famous song, “Alone Again (Naturally)”, a track that reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States for six weeks and earned three Grammy Award nominations. During the same period, O’Sullivan delivered other major hits, including “Clair” and “Get Down”, consolidating an international reputation built above all on the strength of his songwriting.
His career, however, did not stop with the successes of the 1970s. O’Sullivan continued to release new music and perform live, always maintaining a strong authorial identity. His work has also been recognised with three Ivor Novello Awards, among the most prestigious British honours dedicated to composition and songwriting.
“On The Record” arrives at a particularly significant moment in his career, which in 2026 marks 60 years of musical activity. The album will feature 13 tracks and, according to early details, was recorded in just five days at Eastcote Studios in London, with a group of musicians already involved in his most recent projects. Production is once again handled by Andy Wright, who previously worked with O’Sullivan on “Driven” (2022) and “Songbook” (2024).
Among the most interesting moments of the new album is “Is That You?”, a duet with Andrea Corr, singer and member of The Corrs.
