Gli Ween aprono il loro archivio e riportano alla luce una parte preziosa della loro storia live con “Boognish Provides”, un nuovo box set che raccoglie sette concerti finora inediti registrati tra il 1994 e il 1995, nel periodo del tour di Chocolate and Cheese. La pubblicazione è prevista per il 16 ottobre 2026 attraverso Rhino Records.
Il progetto documenta una fase fondamentale nella crescita della band di Gene Ween e Dean Ween, arrivata in quegli anni a un importante punto di svolta. Dopo gli esordi caratterizzati dalle registrazioni casalinghe su quattro piste, gli Ween stavano iniziando a portare la propria musica in una dimensione più ampia, anche grazie alla presenza stabile di una vera band di supporto.
L’edizione più completa sarà un imponente box set da 14 CD, con i concerti integrali registrati in sette diverse città: Santa Monica, Chicago, Minneapolis, Athens, Anversa, Boulder e Philadelphia. Per chi preferisce il vinile sarà invece disponibile una versione 2 LP, contenente 19 brani selezionati dalle stesse performance.
La scaletta permette di fotografare perfettamente quel particolare momento della carriera degli Ween. Sono presenti ben 12 dei 16 brani di Chocolate and Cheese, affiancati da pezzi provenienti da album precedenti come GodWeenSatan, The Pod e Pure Guava. Non mancano inoltre alcune vere curiosità per i fan, tra cui una rara versione acustica di “Voodoo Lady” e il debutto dal vivo di “A Tear for Eddie”.
Interessante anche la presenza di brani che anticipavano il futuro della band. Durante quei concerti gli Ween eseguivano infatti materiale destinato a comparire negli album successivi, tra cui “Piss Up A Rope”, “The Blarney Stone” e “Flutes of Chi”, offrendo oggi una prospettiva particolare sull’evoluzione del loro repertorio.
Ad accompagnare l’annuncio è arrivato anche un primo assaggio del box: gli Ween hanno pubblicato una versione live di “Vallejo”, registrata il 10 febbraio 1995 al 40 Watt Club di Athens, in Georgia. La registrazione dura circa 24 minuti e permette di entrare direttamente nell’atmosfera di quei concerti.
“Boognish Provides” diventa così un documento prezioso di una delle fasi più significative della storia degli Ween: un periodo in cui la band stava trasformando la propria dimensione sperimentale e imprevedibile in uno spettacolo dal vivo sempre più ambizioso. Per gli appassionati, l’appuntamento è fissato al 16 ottobre, quando queste registrazioni degli anni ’90 torneranno finalmente ad ascoltarsi nella loro interezza.

Ween are opening up their archives and bringing a valuable piece of their live history back into the spotlight with Boognish Provides, a new box set featuring seven previously unreleased concerts recorded between 1994 and 1995 during the Chocolate and Cheese tour. The collection is set for release on October 16, 2026, via Rhino Records.
The project captures a pivotal moment in the evolution of Gene Ween and Dean Ween's band. After years defined by home-recorded four-track releases, Ween were beginning to expand their sound onto larger stages, supported by a full touring band and a growing live reputation.
The most comprehensive edition will be an extensive 14-CD box set featuring complete performances recorded in seven cities: Santa Monica, Chicago, Minneapolis, Athens, Antwerp, Boulder, and Philadelphia. Vinyl collectors will also be able to pick up a 2-LP edition containing 19 tracks selected from those same shows.
The track selection offers a perfect snapshot of that era in Ween's career. The collection includes 12 of the 16 songs from Chocolate and Cheese, alongside material from earlier releases such as GodWeenSatan, The Pod, and Pure Guava. Fans will also find several notable rarities, including a rare acoustic version of “Voodoo Lady” and the live debut of “A Tear for Eddie.”
The set is also notable for featuring songs that hinted at the band's future direction. During these performances, Ween were already playing material that would later appear on subsequent albums, including “Piss Up A Rope,” “The Blarney Stone,” and “Flutes of Chi,” offering a fascinating look at the evolution of their catalog.
To accompany the announcement, Ween have shared a first preview from the release: a live performance of “Vallejo,” recorded on February 10, 1995, at the legendary 40 Watt Club in Athens, Georgia.
